  • Lancers split with Bantams
    The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers baseball team split a four-game series with USC Union at the Lancaster High School baseball field. The USCU Bantams won the first two games, 6-4 and 7-2 on March 30. The Lancers came back for two wins March 31, rolling 11-5 and 17-1. In the 16-run win on Saturday to cap the series, Jared Firmstone led the Lancers with three hits. Bo Owens and Walker McDowell each had two hits, with McDowell ripping a double. Josh Evans of Indian Land belted a grand slam and Nick Cicci clubbed a home run.

    Fore the Kids golf tourney April 20 The eighth annual Fore the Kids golf tournament is April 20 at Edgewater Golf Club, 2380 Catawba Ridge BLvd, Lancaster. The tourney benefits the Lancaster, Chester and York chapters of the Child Evangelism Fellowship.  A four-player captain’s choice team is $75 per player, which includes lunch, supper, prizes and goodie bag. Mulligans are available. Prizes are awarded through top teams and drawings.

    Gamecock Club hosts USC coaches  The annual Lancaster County Gamecock Club spring meeting is April 16 at the Catawba Fish Camp in Fort Lawn. Dinner is at 6 p.m., with the meeting at 7. Guest speakers include USC men’s basketball coach Frank Martin and Gamecocks offensive line coach Eric Wolford. A raffle, with $5 tickets, will be held for two Gamecocks season tickets.

    Warriors beat Chester on diamond Indian Land High School’s baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 Region IV-AAA win over Chester High School at the ILHS field March 16. Warriors senior hurler Nolan Bolt, who worked 6.2 frames, was the winner with 12 strikeouts. He allowed six hits, three runs and two walks. Daniel Gueldner, who went a third of an inning for the save, had a strikeout.

    Registration set for youth ball teams Registration is set for T-ball boys (ages 4-5), instructional swing league for boys (ages 5-6) and Sweetee for girls (ages 4-6). Ages are as of May 1, 2018.   • ILMS girls hoops season champs
    The Indian Land Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team, in its first season in the Fort Mill Athletic Conference, captured the regular-season championship with a 10-0 record, 11-1 overall. Team members are Ava Ladd, Kayla Jefferies, Tia Funderburk, Gabi Wilson, Ava Enireb, Mattie-Baile Tripp, Kendall Mallekoote, Carolina Terry, Bella Sikorski, Carly Cabe, Natalie Tripp and Tala Alqasus. The ILMS Lady Warriors Middle School team is coached by head coach Rob Wilson and assistant George Laettner.

    Sawyer wins at Columbia marathon Indian Land High School sophomore Hannah Sawyer came in first with a time of 3:46:02 in the 18-24 category (they did not have a category for 16-year-olds) at the Columbia Run Hard Marathon on March 3. She placed fifth for overall female and 35th in the entire race. She is a member of the cross country and track team at ILHS. Martial arts tourney March 10 The 44th annual Martial Arts Championships will be March 10 at Springdale Recreation Center, 260 Plantation Road, Lancaster.

    Magicmasters to play in Lancaster The Harlem Magicmasters will make their annual appearance at the Lancaster High School gym at 7 p.m. March 2 to face the Fatherhood Trailblazers. The event, sponsored by the Lancaster Fatherhood Project, will feature a special halftime show, which includes an autograph session, tricks, dunks and giveaways. Advance tickets for students and seniors are $6 each. The advance price for the general public is $8. The price at the gate for seniors and students is $8 and $10 for the general public.

    Adult hoops league meeting Feb. 21 The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Department will hold an organizational meeting for the 2018 Adult Basketball League at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Springdale Recreation Center, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster. Rosters need to be submitted and schedules, league rules and regulations will be given out. A team representative must attend the meeting. Deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 16.
