    Register now for youth soccer Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission has set spring soccer registration for boys and girls, ages 5-13 as of Sept. 1, 2012. The fee is $45.     ILHS sports awards program Thursday The Indian Land High School fall sports awards program will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, in the Indian Land High School gym.   • U12 all-stars win state title
    The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Department 12-under all-stars successfully defended the S.C. Athletic Programs state championship title for the third year in a row. On Dec. 3, the Lancaster County stars traveled to Patriot Park in Sumter, where they faced stiff competition from the host Sumter U12 all-star team and the Walhalla all-star team. Walhalla defeated North Myrtle Beach in the first round to advance to the state championship match. Lancaster faced Sumter in the first-round match.

    AJ annual holiday tourney ends Dec. 28 The 2011 Comporium Christmas Classic ends today, Dec. 28, at Andrew Jackson High School. Play opens at 3 p.m. today for the girls consolation game, and the boys at 4:30 p.m. The girls championship game is set for 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per person.   • ILMS boys score overtime hoops victory
    by Sammy Fitzpatrick/Special to Carolina Gateway The Indian Land Middle School Warriors basketball team has bounced back after close loss to Andrew Jackson Middle School. The Dec. 5 loss ended their hopes of an undefeated season, leaving them with a 1-1 record. "Our goal going into the season was to win every time we stepped onto the basketball court. We did not came away with a win; however, I was extremely satisfied with our effort," ILMS boys head coach Sammy Fitzpatrick said.  
  • U10 all-stars win state soccer title
    The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission program captured a pair of state championships in the S.C. Athletic Programs state soccer tournament Dec. 3 at Patriot Park in Sumter. The Lancaster 9-10 all-stars and the Lancaster County 11-12 all-stars won state crowns, while the 15-under all-stars finished as the state runner-up. U10 all-stars win The Lancaster County 9-10 soccer all-stars captured their second straight SCAP 10U state title with a pair of shutout wins at Sumter’s Patriot Park.

  • ILMS boys defeat Buford, 48-43, in overtime thriller
    Indian Land Middle School eked out a hard-fought 48-43 victory over Buford Middle School in overtime Thursday night before a rambunctious crowd.   The two evenly matched teams traded baskets through the first quarter, which ended tied at 11. Entering the second quarter, Indian Land took an early five-point lead behind the inside scoring of center Austin Gordon. Gordon scored eight of Indian Land’s 10 second-quarter points, with Reed Strawhorn adding two.   Gordon dominated the paint by scoring 24 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in the game.

    Indian Land Middle School Indian Land Middle School recognized athletes in three sports at its annual fall sports banquet Nov. 10. The event is designed primarily to recognize ILMS student-athletes in fall sports. ILMS principal David McDonald spoke about the importance of middle school activities and the foundation being one to model character.

    Hole seven lucky for Sun City golfers Two golfers made holes-in-one on hole seven at Carolina Lakes Golf Course on Nov. 18. Bill Roberts used a 5-iron to make a 164-yard drive for his fifth ace. Kevin Rusnak used a 7-wood to make his first ace.
