  • Another drug arrest for Brooks’ girlfriend

    An interaction between a sheriff’s deputy and former school board member James Brooks outside an Indian Land restaurant Jan. 18 led to drug charges against Brooks’ girlfriend, Laura Lee McManus.
    The incident at Bojangles, 8327 Collins Road, happened two days after Brooks’ release from jail on similar charges and nearly a year to the day after his drug arrest with McManus at the nearby Gate Station.

  • IL woman arrested on 5 drug charges

    An Indian Land woman has been charged with multiple drug offenses after a deputy pulled her over for a license-plate violation.
    Susan Renee Hayes, 40, was arrested on five drug charges: trafficking 10 to 28 grams of cocaine and methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute alprazolam and marijuana, and possession of Oxycodone.

  • James Brooks arrested again on meth charge

    Former school board member James M. Brooks has been arrested on drug charges for the third time in 14 months, this time for possessing methamphetamine.

    
The 51-year-old Lancaster resident was arrested just before 6 p.m. Jan. 15, according to a release from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

    From Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports:
    ◆ Thieves stole four tires and rims off an Acura TXS early Dec. 2 at CRC Auto Sales, 876 Fort Mill Highway (S.C. 160) in Indian Land. The manager told deputies that surveillance video showed a dark sedan dropped off a man dressed in dark clothing about 5:07 a.m. The man proceeded to steal the tires and left the Acura on blocks. The suspect car returned to pick up the man and the $1,400 worth of tires and rims at 5:28 a.m.

  • Bud Light recliner too tempting for thieves

    Two men and a woman stole a promotional Bud Light recliner from an Indian Land convenience store Dec. 2, and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the thieves.
    According to the incident report, the theft happened about 1:41 a.m. at the 7-Eleven near the Indian Land Walmart when a man and a woman entered the store while another man waited at their vehicle by the gas pumps.

  • 2 incidents of gunshots reported in Indian Land

    Multiple shots were heard in two Indian Land neighborhoods Dec. 4, and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating both incidents.
    Deputies responded shortly after 10:30 p.m. to a home in the Hatton Terrace neighborhood, where a woman reported that her home had been shot, according to sheriff’s spokesman Doug Barfield. Deputies determined that the home had been struck three times.
    “We still don’t know who did it or why,” Barfield said.

  • Van Wyck man charged with kidnapping and assault

    A Van Wyck man was arrested Oct. 27 after he was accused of knifing a woman in a hotel room and holding her and another man against their will.
    Kennis Crawford, 58, of 1955 Steele Hill Road, is charged with second-degree assault and battery and two counts of kidnapping.
    According to a Lancaster Police Department incident report, at 1:40 a.m. that day, officers responded to a 911 open-line cell-phone call that “pinged” in Room 132 of the Carriage Inn, 1100 N. Main St., but couldn’t get anybody to come to the door.

  • Man reports 1984 theft of motorcycle

    A Fort Mill man reported the theft of his 1960 Harley-Davidson Panhead motorcycle earlier this month – 33 years after it was stolen from a home in Indian Land.
    According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office incident report, 59-year-old Gerald Byers told deputies Sept. 12 that the classic black and silver motorcycle had been stolen from a home on Six Mile Creek Road in January 1984.

  • Sheriff seeks suspect in IL wire theft

    Five spools of electrical wire were stolen from the RedStone construction site in Indian Land, and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying a videotaped suspect.

    Video surveillance showed a man inside the RedStone 14 cineplex building at 9650 Charlotte Highway between 11:13 p.m. and 11:32 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. He appears to be white, between 6 foot 1 inch and 6 foot 3 inches tall, and weighs 185 to 195 pounds, according to the sheriff’s office.

  • IL teacher’s aide charged in theft from 2nd employer

    A teacher’s aide at Indian Land Elementary School was charged Monday, Sept. 18,  with stealing about $8,500 from her second job at a cupcake shop in Fort Mill.
    Melanie Marie Kikta, 35, of Indian Land, was placed on paid administrative leave by the Lancaster County School District after district officials learned about the case over the weekend, said Bryan Vaughn, district safety director.
