  • Holy Week is a time of renewal

They are at the heart of our very existence and meaning. In the course of our busy week, we most likely have times set apart for certain things that are important to us – a workout, a few social phone calls/meals with loved ones, or maybe even a short catnap – so that we can renew ourselves, our energy and our outlook.

    Belair food pantry open March 15

    The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon March 15. The pantry is for those who live in the Indian Land and Harrisburg schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome. Donations of food or money are also welcome at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.

    Next JAARS Day March 10

    The next JAARS Day is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 10 at 7405 JAARS Road, Waxhaw, N.C. The open house will feature missionary stories, rides in an airplane, helicopter, boat or four-wheel-drive vehicle, media demonstrations in various languages, children’s activities, ethnic clothes and musical instruments from other cultures and visits to the Museum of the Alphabet and the Mexico-Cardenas Museum.     St. John’s UMC chili cookoff Feb.25 

    St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold its annual Chili Cook Off 5-7  p.m. Feb. 25 in the fellowship hall. There is no fee and no ticket needed.  Donations will be accepted by each participant as votes for the grand chili champion. All of the money collected that evening will go toward the Beds=Dreams mission project. For details, email Bryan Meador at meadorbunch @comporium.net.

    Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Highway, will hold the following upcoming events:

    - The church will hold a Mardi Gras festival at noon Feb. 11.

    - OLOG Book Club meets 1-2 p.m. Mondays.

    - The “Kingdom of Happiness” eight-week course is 1 p.m. Thursdays through March 15 and 5:30 p.m. Sundays through March 18. Study guide costs $25.
