    St. John’s UMC posts upcoming events
    St. Johns United Methodist Church, 160 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events:
    • The Wacky Wednesdays summer program for church members in kindergarten through fifth grade are June 27, July 11, 25 and Aug. 8. On June 27, the group will see the movie “Incredibles 2” at the Manchester Theater in Rock Hill. Cost of movie is $9.70 for those under age 12. Sign up on the blue sheet in the main hallway.

    St. Paul’s VBS June 11-14
    St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 501 Pine St., Fort Mill, will host Vacation Bible School for children in kindergarten through fourth grade 5:30-8 p.m. June 11-14. Cost is $10 per child and supper will be provided. For details, contact Jane Kilpatrick at stpaulseducator@gmail.com.

    Belair food pantry open June 7
    The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon June 7. The pantry is for those who live in the Indian Land and Harrisburg schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome. Donations of food or money are also welcome at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.

    • The church’s Red Cross blood drive is 2:30-7 p.m. May 24. Sign up at redcrossblood.org or call the church office.
    • Gourmet Travelers, a group for church members who normally eat alone, will meet for lunch at 11:05 a.m. May 29 at Ruby Tuesday’s, 1410 Springdale Road, Rock Hill.

  • Church party kicks off summer

    Mother’s Day flower sale May 11-12
    Steele Hill AME Zion Church, 6021 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, will hold its annual Mother’s Day flower sale 8 a.m.-7 p.m. May 11 and 8 a.m.-noon May 12. Hanging baskets and assorted flowers will be available to buy.

    Homeschool info session May 3
    The Holy Queen Homeschool Group at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church will hold an info session for registered families and prospective parents at 7 p.m. May 3 in the church’s parish hall, 7095 Waxhaw Highway, Lancaster.
    Attendees can meet the co-op’s teachers and learn more about its fall 2018 university-style courses for middle and high school students.
    Families do not have to be Catholic to join the homeschool co-op.

  • Council denies church’s rezoning request

    Lancaster County Council voted 5-2 April 9 to deny a conditional-use application that would let bilingual Chinese-American congregation Truth In Grace Bible Church build a sanctuary on Harrisburg Road in Indian Land.
    County Councilman Larry Honeycutt, who made the motion to deny, noted that neighboring residents and property owners submitted a 103-signature petition asking county leaders to reject the application.
