  • Kirby appointed OLOG pastor

    from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church
    Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone has appointed Father Jeffrey F. Kirby as pastor of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Indian Land.
    Kirby has served the church as its administrator since August 2016. 
    As pastor, Kirby steps into the full role as the “proper shepherd” of the parish.

    St. John’s UMC posts events
    St. John’s United Methodist Church, 160 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events:
    • Grief Support Group meets at 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
    • The WEE School’s Fall and Winter Consignment/Bake Sale is Oct. 11-15 in the fellowship hall. To volunteer or donate items to the sales, contact Beth at sjumcweschol@gmail.com. The pumpkin patch next to the church is now open.

    Faith hosts mobile pantry Oct. 4
    Faith Presbyterian Church, 7520 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, will sponsor a Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry on Oct. 4 in the parking lot of the new church building at the intersection of Charlotte Highway and Van Wyck Road.
    Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the distribution of food should begin at about 9 a.m. Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, until it is gone.

    Faith Presbyterian Church, 7520 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, will sponsor a Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry on Oct. 4.
    The pantry truck will be in the parking lot of the new church building at the intersection of Charlotte Highway (U.S. 521) and Van Wyck Road.
    Previous mobile pantries were held at Belair United Methodist Church on Shelley Mullis Road.
    Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the distribution of food should begin at about 9 a.m.

  • Mormon church creates IL ward

    Aug. 12 was an exciting day for local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the church created its very first ward in Indian Land.
    A “ward” in the Mormon church is similar to a congregation in other religious organizations and represents a specific geographic area. A ward usually consists of about 500 members.
    On that same day, a new Fort Mill Stake was created. A “stake” is similar to a diocese in other religious organizations and represents several wards.
