  • Sun City Cycling Club thanks historic church

    About 15 miles or so through their morning ride, cyclists from Sun City Carolina Lakes and the Indian Land area take a few moments to rest and refresh themselves on the steps of the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church, a historic landmark about six miles northwest of Lancaster on Old Hickory Road.

  • Catholic women’s drive collects 5K pounds of food

    The Women of Grace Fellowship have been blessed to work in the Lord’s vineyard each fall through its Thanksgiving food drive.
    The women collected 5,895 pounds of food during their annual drive held at all Masses at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in the two weeks before Thanksgiving.

  • Community unites behind Jews

    On Oct. 27, a gunman burst into the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh,  shouting anti-Semitic slurs and killing 11 Jewish worshipers in the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history. This event had far-reaching effects across the nation, even here in Indian Land.
    On Nov. 1, the Shalom Club of Sun City Carolina Lakes and the Sun City Bible Study Club united in an interfaith memorial for those who died in the Pittsburgh shooting.

    St. John’s UMC posts events
    St. John’s United Methodist Church, 160 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events:
    • During the Vespers service at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12, create a gingerbread house with your family or join others to work on one. The usual Wednesday evening meal will be at 5:45 p.m.
    • The R.E.A.L Kids for Christ (kindergarten-fifth grade) will go caroling 12:15-2:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
    • Angel Tree gifts must be returned by noon Dec. 16, so the youth can deliver them that day.

  • Van Wyck candle-lighting event is Sunday

    The churches of Van Wyck will come together Sunday, Dec. 9, to light hundreds of candles along Old Hickory Road and hear short Christmas messages and music.
    In its 25th year, The Lighting of the Way is an annual multi-faith lighting event organized by the Van Wyck Woman’s Club that ushers in the Advent season, unifying neighbors and friends. It is Van Wyck’s second Christmas as an official town of South Carolina.

    Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, opens its food pantry for Indian Land residents 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 6 (first and third Thursday of each month). Donations of food or cash may be dropped off at the Belair church office 9 a.m.-noon weekdays.
