  • Church opens mobile soup kitchen

    from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church
    Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church has started a mobile soup kitchen ministry to benefit hungry people in the surrounding community.
    Mark Weaver launched the ministry in June 2018.
    Volunteers cook soup, usually for about 100 people, in the kitchen at Our Lady of Grace, then take it to the site. They go where they are called to serve, and all events are held outside.

    Food truck at Faith on April 4
    Faith Presbyterian Church, 7520 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, will sponsor a Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry on April 4.
    The truck will be in the parking lot of the new Faith Presbyterian Church building at the intersection of U.S. 521 and Van Wyck Road.
    Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the distribution of food about 9 a.m. Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, until it is gone. Recipients must meet USDA income-eligibility guidelines. This distribution is open to all in need.

  • Faith Presbyterian to host food truck April 4

    Faith Presbyterian Church, 7520 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, will sponsor a Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry on April 4.
    The food truck will be in the parking lot of the church building at the intersection of Charlotte Highway (U.S. 521) and Van Wyck Road.
    Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the distribution of food should begin about 9 a.m.
    Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, until it is gone.

  • Lengers column: Are you fasting during Lent?

    In recent years, there has been a trend among Christians to make prayer and good works the focus of Lenten observances rather than fasting or self-denial. In other words, rather than give up such things as sweets, coffee, meat or condiments and seasonings, there is greater movement toward resolutions to pray more, visit a shut-in, devote more time to spiritual readings, or even “fast” from vices such as unkindness.
