The Indian Land Warriors, fine-tuning their focus for what’s next, treated their regular-season basketball finale as a playoff game Thursday, Feb. 8, at Fairfield Central.
The approach worked as the Warriors won 69-57 over Fairfield Central High School of Winnsboro for a Region IV-AAA hoops split.
“We felt the game had a playoff atmosphere and we needed to have a complete game, four quarters of solid basketball,” ILHS coach Nate Smith said.
“As a third seed, we will be on the road for the playoffs, so we approached this game as road game.”
The Warriors got into early foul trouble, but spread the floor to take advantage of their quickness in the game.
ILHS senior guard Jerrick Palmer paced the Warriors, 9-13, 4-4, with 24 points. Destin Clark netted 20, 10 in each half.
Douglass Tutt tallied eight points, with six from Tai Gilbert. Donovan White scored five as did Tre Thompson.
Ladeveaux Ashford sparked FCHS with 15 points. Quay McBride scored 14 for the Griffins. Zack Seasor added 12 points.
The Warriors opened the Class AAA Upper State playoffs with a trip to Greenville to face the Berea High School Bulldogs in the first round of the Class AAA Upstate playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
