Warriors edge Seneca booters for Upstate title bid

The Indian Land High School Warriors made the most of a lone goal to edge Seneca High School, 1-0, on Saturday, May 4, and advance to the Class AAA Upper State title soccer match with Pendleton High School on Tuesday, May 7.
Indian Land’s Brandon Sanchez tallied in the 26th minute and the Warriors made it stand in their 1-0 win over the host Bobcats.
Addison Guild had an assist on the Sanchez goal.
ILHS keeper Gabe Burris had four saves in the Warriors’ shutout.
The Warriors, 18-7 on the season, opened the Class AAA Upper State playoffs by taking a 2-1 win over Powdersville and then topped Mid-Carolina High School of Prosperity as Guild, Payton Arnold and John Fosu each tallied a goal.
Logan Lambert, Jordan Perry and Tristan Vindel each had an assist.
Burris notched three saves.
The winner of the Indian Land vs. Pendleton match advances to face the winner of the Bishop England vs. May River match for the Class AAA state title Saturday at Irmo High School.
The Warriors, after playing in the state championship match five straight seasons, missed out on playing for the state title two straight seasons, but are in contention this season.
