Two ILHS runners win state titles

Henry, Davis lead teams to top 10 finishes

The Indian Land High School track teams posted top 10 finishes, including two individual state champions, at the Class AAA state meet on Saturday, May 12, at Spring Valley High School in Pontiac.
ILHS sophomore runner Leah Henry won the state title in the 400-meter dash.
ILHS junior sprinter Marlin Davis highlighted a stellar day with the 200 meters state crown.
The Lady Warriors, the Region IV-AAA champions, placed fifth overall out of 32 teams, with 34 points.
The Warriors placed eighth in the Class AAA boys meet out of 30 teams with 29 points.
Henry ran a 58.90 to win the 400-meter dash. She was also sixth in the 200-meter dash, posting a 25.77.
Henry also teamed with Kendall Sullivan, Paje Law and Empress Fitzgerald to finish sixth in the 4x100- meter relay with a 50.81 effort.
The girls 4x400 relay team of Sullivan, Anna Dessie, Artiana Andrews and Tymahariah Miller combined for a 4:14.11 effort to place third in the event.
ILHS sophomore distance runner Kaitlyn Rodman finished fourth in the 1600 run with a 5:31.43.
Sophomore Blakely Hardin was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 17.35 effort.
Fitzgerald placed sixth in the girls long jump, with a 15-06.75 showing.

Davis was a dynamo for the Indian Land High boys.
The junior sprinter dashed to a 21.64 to win the Class AAA boys 200 meters state title.
In the 100 meters, he ran a 10.70 to place second in the event for a silver medal.
Davis also had a fourth-place effort in the 400-meter dash, posting a 49.46, followed by teammate Coby Hall in fifth with a 50.99 finish.
The 4x400-meter ILHS boys relay team of Deshon Harris, Brian Adams, Devonte Harris and Hall  combined to place second in 3:26.66.
Warriors freshman Grant Witherspoon placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.11.
