Register now for youth fall sports
The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission offers five fall sports:
• Football, ages 7-12, $75 fee
• Cheerleading, ages 7-12, $30 fee
• Soccer, ages 5-15, $65 fee
• Youth volleyball, girls ages 7-12, $50 fee
• Introduction to soccer, age 4 only, $50 fee – This introduces the basic techniques of soccer. Each child will receive a T-shirt and soccer ball.
Age cut-off date is Sept. 1, 2018.
Register at one of the following locations, dates and times or online at www. mylancastersc.org/parks.
• Springdale Rec Center, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster: through Aug. 24, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays
• Indian Land @ Walnut Creek, 10521 Walnut Creek Parkway: Aug. 9, 16, 21 and 23, 6:30-8 p.m.

North-South Classic slated for Aug. 11

The annual Founders Federal Credit Union North- South Kickoff Classic is Aug. 11 at Lancaster Memorial Stadium.
The four Lancaster County high school football teams will face teams from North Carolina.
Gates open at 5 p.m., and the first game begins at 6 p.m. with Buford High School battling Northwest Cabarrus High School.
Andrew Jackson High School faces West Mecklenburg High School at 7 p.m.
Indian Land High School tangles with Ardrey Kell High School at 8 p.m., with Lancaster High School meeting South Mecklenburg High School at 9 p.m.
Tickets are available at the county high schools’ offices. Advance tickets are $5, and $6 at the gate on game night. County school officials and jamboree officials advise fans to buy tickets in advance to avoid long lines and waiting the day of the event.
Memorial Stadium is on Stadium Street adjacent to North Elementary School, 1100 Roddey Drive, Lancaster, a block north of the Lancaster High School baseball field.

Bear Hug Brawl JV jamboree Aug. 16

The seventh annual Bear Hug Brawl junior varsity football kickoff jamboree is 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at Buford High School Stadium on Tabernacle Road.
Andrew Jackson, Buford, Lancaster and Indian Land JV teams and cheer squads will compete. The event will feature games, prizes, raffles and food.
Admission is $5 in advance and $6 at the gate. Advance tickets are available at Buford Little General Store and Buford High School, or you can message us on Facebook @sethsgivingtree.
All proceeds benefit the Seth’s Giving Tree foundation.

Hoops game to benefit Barnes

A benefit basketball game to help former Indian Land High School basketball player Brandon Barnes will be held Aug. 25 at the ILHS Warriors gym.
The entry fee for teams is $250, which includes a meal for each team member.
The title team receives $500 and a championship T-shirt. The first-place team and runner-up team each receive a trophy.
Last spring, Barnes’ life was changed forever when he was injured in a diving accident. The injury left him paralyzed from the neck down.
After several months of therapy, he can breathe on his own, talk and eat. He is now at home with his family.
All tournament proceeds will go to his long-term care.
The tournament is limited to eight teams and the registration deadline is Aug. 18. T
