Bear Hug Brawl moved to Aug. 24
The eighth Bear Hug Brawl, the annual junior varsity football jamboree, has been moved to Saturday, Aug. 24, at Buford High School’s Jackets Stadium. It begins at 10 a.m.
The junior varsity football squads from Andrew Jackson, Buford, Indian Land and Lancaster high schools will face off as follows:
• 10:10 a.m. – Buford vs. Lancaster
• 11 a.m. – Indian Land  vs. Andrew Jackson
• 11:30 a.m. – Kicking contest
• Noon – Indian Land  vs. Lancaster
• 12:45 p.m. – Andrew Jackson vs. Buford
The jamboree will also feature a silent auction and spirit contest.
The Buford High School Booster Club will provide concessions. Cater’s Taters and Creighton’s Creamery will sell food to fans. Carolina Panthers mascot Sir Purr will also attend.
Tickets are $5 prior to the day of the jamboree, $6 at the gate. Ages 12 and under get in free.
Soccer officials’ meeting Aug. 25
A Lancaster County Parks & Recreation soccer officials’ meeting for the fall season is 2:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at Springdale Recreation Complex, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster. The meeting is mandatory for all returning and new officials, and those interested in becoming officials. For details, call Micky Taylor at (803) 285-5545.
Rotary Open Golf Tournament Sept. 19
The 2019 Rotary Open golf tournament is Sept. 19 at the Lancaster Golf Club, 1821 Springs Club Road, Lancaster. Check-in at noon  for team assignments. The captain’s choice tourney begins at 12:30 p.m., with food and prizes at 5 p.m. The entry fee is $75 per golfer. Entry deadline is Sept. 1. For details, call Steve Sherrill at (803) 283-6915.
Team prizes are $600 for first place, $400 for second and $200 for third place.
Special prizes include close-ups on all par-three holes and longest drive on hole No. 12.
A player pack can be purchased the day of the tournament at $10. The bag will include a red tee, two Mulligans, prize ticket and an entry to the putting contest.
The tournament’s title sponsor is Founders Federal Credit Union.
All golfers will be assigned teams by the Rotary Golf Subcommittee. Golf teams not assembled by the Rotary Golf Subcommittee, including those formed by corporate sponsors, can play in the tournament, but may not be eligible for any cash prizes.
The entry fee is $75 for a single golfer. Checks should be made payable to the Rotary Club. The entry deadline is Sept. 1. For details, call Steve Sherrill at (803) 283-6915.
