Sheriff's office vs SCCL softball game Aug. 10
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will take on Sun City Carolina Lakes in a charity softball game at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 10 at the softball field in Sun City's Water's Edge Park off Sun City Boulevard. Donations to the Special Olympics are welcome in lieu of an admission fee. Food and Special Olympics gear will sold at the park. Donations are tax-deductible and receipts will be available.

County Gamecock Club fall kickoff
The Lancaster County Gamecock Club football kickoff cookout is 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Lancaster Moose Lodge, 200 Shrine Moose Drive off South Plantation Road, Lancaster.
Wes Mitchell of Gamecock Central will be the guest speaker, who will give a preview on the 2019 USC football season.
Admission is free to the event, which includes hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings to all attendees.

Register for Silver Threads Bowling
Registration for the Silver Threads Bowling League is 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at Lancaster Bowling Center, 1352 Reece Road, Lancaster. The league will begin Sept. 4, meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesdays. For details, call (803) 286-0711.
Free family fishing clinic Aug. 17
A free family fishing clinic will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Grandchildren’s Park in Sun City Carolina Lakes.
Instructors are resident volunteers who are members of the Sport Fishing Club.
Bait, rods and reels, and tackle will be provided.
The clinic is designed to introduce the basics of fishing to both young and old. Participants will learn how to tie fishing knots, rig rods, cast, fish and more.

Good Samaritan tournament Aug. 17
The Good Samaritan Scholarship Foundation’s second annual Lancaster County Teachers Volleyball Tournament and JV and Varsity Scrimmages is Aug. 17 in the Buford High School gym, 4290 Tabernacle Road, Lancaster.
Game schedule for the day is:
• 8:45 a.m.-1 p.m. – JV and varsity scrimmages
• 1:15-2:30 p.m. – teachers tournament
• 2:45-5 p.m. – JV  and varsity championship games
Outdoor fun for all ages includes corn hole, football toss, water games, face painting, balloon art, as well as activities inside and outside for toddlers.
Concessions will be sold, including coffee and pastries, hot dogs, pizza, nachos, popcorn, candy, snacks, drinks, water, homemade ice cream, snow cones and more.
Tickets – $1 each, $10 for 12 or $20 for 25 –will be sold at the door for food and activities. Admission to the volleyball games is five tickets for adults and two for students; toddlers get in free. Wristbands allow re-entry to volleyball games.
The tournament provides funds for the Good Samaritan Scholarship Foundation’s scholarships and mentoring support to empower high school students with a demonstrated history of serving others and making their communities a better place to live.
North-South Classic slated for Aug. 17
The annual Founders Federal Credit Union North-South Kickoff Classic is Aug. 17 at Andrew Jackson High School Stadium, 6925 Kershaw Camden Highway, Kershaw.
Lancaster County’s four  high school football teams will face North Carolina teams.
Classic play opens at 6 p.m. with Indian Land battling Monroe High School.Lancaster faces West Mecklenburg High School at 7 p.m. Buford tangles with the Class A McBee High School Panthers at 8 p.m. The host Andrew Jackson High School Volunteers square off against Anson County at 9 p.m.
Advance tickets ($5 each) are available at the offices of the four county high schools. Admission on game night is $7. Fans are urged to buy advance tickets to avoid long lines and waiting the day of the event. Stadium gates open at 5 p.m.
LCPR soccer officials’ meeting Aug. 25
A Lancaster County Parks & Recreation soccer officials’ meeting for the fall season is 2:30 p.m. Aug 25 at Springdale Recreation Complex, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster.
The meeting is mandatory for all returning and new officials, as well as those interested in becoming officials. For details, call Micky Taylor at (803) 285-5545.
