County offers adult softball leagues
If you are interested in joining an adult softball team, or adding a team to the Lancaster County Parks and Recreation men’s  or co-ed softball leagues, the program is now open.
Individuals can sign up online at www.mylancastersc.org/parks, or drop by the main office at the Springdale Recreation Center, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster. The fee is $40 per person.
If you already have a team ready to play, turn in the roster at the office. If you only have a few players together, the LCPRC can add individuals who have signed up online to your team.

LA Elite 14U softball hosts tournament
The LA Elite youth softball team will hold a co-ed slow- pitch softball tournament fundraiser July 14 at Camp Clyburn, 3662 Taxahaw Road in eastern Lancaster County off S.C. 903 East.
Prizes will be presented to the top two teams. Concessions will be sold.
This fundraiser will help the LA Elite with travel, lodging, fees and other expenses for the 14U showcase at ESPN Orlando, Fla.

ASC Greenway offers outdoor programs

Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill will host the following outdoors programs:
• Get to Know the Greenway guided tour – 9 a.m. July 14 and 18 at the Dairy Barn Entrance, 250 Dairy Barn Lane, Fort Mill. The van tour lasts about an hour. No hiking required. Space is limited to eight. The event is free, but registration is necessary due to limited van capacity.
• Exploring the Greenway guided hike – 10 a.m. July 14 and 21 starting at the Rush Pavillion, 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill. Led by a master naturalist, the hike will cover about two miles and take about one and a half hours. Free for members, $5 for non-members.
• Sunset Kayak – 7:15 p.m. July 19 at the Rush Pavilion, 2573 Lake Haigler Drive. Kayaks and personal flotation devices will be provided. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in a tandem kayak. Cost is by kayak – $15 for a single kayak and $20 for a tandem kayak, including kayak equipment and guide. Nonmembers must pay greenway entry fee of $5. Registration is limited to four single kayaks and two tandem kayaks.

• Moonlight Kayaking – 8:15 p.m. July 27 at the Rush Pavilion, 2573 Lake Haigler Drive. Get those head lamps out and come experience the greenway after hours. Enjoy the serene moonlit waters of Lake Haigler on this after- dark adventure. Gaze at constellations, listen to the night sounds and escape that summer heat as you paddle around the lake. So grab your closed-toe shoes, towels and water bottles and prepare to relax. Cost is by kayak – $15 for a single kayak and $20 for a tandem kayak – and reservations are required. Nonmembers must pay greenway entry fee of $5.

Free fishing clinic July 21 in Sun City

A free Family Fishing Clinic is 1-4 p.m. July 21 at Grandparents’ Park at the intersection of Del Webb Boulevard and Kingfisher Drive in Sun City Carolina Lakes.
Instructors are SCCL Sport Fishing Club volunteers, trained by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. The clinic will introduce the basics of fishing. Bait, rods and reels, and tackle will be provided.

WEC golf tournament set for July 27
The Women’s Enrichment Center’s 12th annual golf toußrnament is July 27 at the Lancaster Golf Club, 1821 Springs Club Road, Lancaster.
The flighted golf tournament has a $500 first-place prize, with $300 for second and $100 for third place, along with close-up and long drive winner awards.
Registration is at 8 a.m., with the invocation and rules at 8:45 and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Donuts will be served from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Awards and meal, a barbecue lunch courtesy of 521 BBQ, are at 1 p.m.
Tournament sponsorships are available at ($2,500) platinum, ($1,000) gold, ($500) silver and $350 (platinum) levels.
Entry fee is $260 for a four-member team. Entry forms are available in the Lancaster Golf Club pro shop and the Women’s Enrichment Center, 311 N. Main St., Lancaster. Registration deadline is July 24. Checks should be made payable to the Women’s Enrichment Center. For details, call (803) 286-5900.

 

LHS swim team tryouts July 30
Tryouts for the 2018 Lancaster High School swim team are July 30 at the Lancaster County Pool, corner of Wylie and York streets. Practice is at 5:30 p.m.
Swimmers from all four county high schools and middle school students in grades seventh and eighth are eligible to try out for the LHS team.
In order to try out and practice for the 2018 season, each swimmer must have a sports physical. Forms are available in the offices at the four county high schools.
