Coaches honor ILHS football player

Indian Land High School’s Jake Locklear was an honorable mention for Class A-AA-AAA offensive lineman of the week at last week’s meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association.

Locklear graded 85 percent with three pancake blocks and no sacks allowed in the Warriors’ one-point loss to the Chester Cyclones, 35-34, on Sept. 29.

Run With the Bruins 5K race Oct. 14 

The Lancaster High cross country team is hosting its eighth annual Run With the Bruins 5K at 9 a.m. Oct. 14 at Memorial Stadium in Lancaster.

Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to run/walk to encourage healthy lifestyles in the community. The 5K is hosted by the LHS cross country team on its home 5K course, which begins and ends near Lancaster Memorial Stadium in the visitors parking lot.

The 5K course includes grass, gravel and blacktop portions. There will be prize money for the top finishers, snacks and refreshments afterward and a kids’ fun run as well.

USCL offers youth swim lessons

Youth swimming lessons at the Gregory Health and Wellness Center pool at USC Lancaster will be Oct. 16- Nov. 9.

Classes offered at aqua-tot, level 1, level 2 and level 3. Classes meet twice a week for four weeks – 6-6:30 p.m. or 6:30-7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.

IL Fall Festival golf tourney Oct. 27

The Fall Festival Golf Tournament will tee off one day before the 2017 Indian Land Fall Festival on Oct. 27 at Carolina Lakes Golf Club at Sun City for an 18-hole Captain’s Choice tournament. 

Check-in and lunch is 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at noon, followed by a dinner at 4 p.m. 

The cost per player is $75 for individuals or $300 per team and includes green fees and golf cart use.

Golfers from the Lancaster County Chamber or Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church get $20 off entry fee per golfer. 

Players’ names must be submitted by Oct. 20.

Festival organizers are also seeking sponsors, with levels from $50 to $350.
