Spring sports registration opening

Registration for Lancaster County Parks and Recreation spring sports is open.

Spring soccer for ages 5-13 (as of Sept. 1, 2018)  costs $65. 

Instructional soccer for age 4 (as of Sept. 1, 2018) is $50.

Girls softball for ages 7-12 (as of Jan. 1, 2018; but if a girl will be 7 by May 1, 2018, she can play), is $75.

Boys baseball for ages 7-12 (as of May 1, 2018) is $75.

Register online at www.mylancastersc.org/park through Jan. 26 or at one of these locations:

- Indian Land Recreation Center, 8286 Charlotte Highway – 6:30-8 p.m. Jan. 17, 22, 24 and 25 

- Springdale Recreation Center, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster – 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays through Jan. 26

Adult hoops league meeting Jan. 17

The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Department will hold an organizational meeting for the 2018 adult basketball league at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at Springdale Recreation Center, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster. League fees, rules, divisions and starting dates will be discussed at the meeting. For details, call Tommy Martin at (803) 285-5545.

Gregory YMCA offers swim lessons
The Gregory Family YMCA, the former Gregory Health and Wellness Center at the University of South Carolina Lancaster, has set youth swim lessons.
The opening session is Jan. 22-Feb. 15. Classes meet two nights a week for four weeks.
Classes are Monday–Wednesday, 6-6:30 or 6:30-7, and Tuesday-Thursday, 6-6:30 p.m. or 6:30-7 p.m.
On Monday/Wednesday, Level 1 and  Level 2 are offered.
On Tuesday/Thursday, Aqua Infant, Aqua Tot, Wee Toddler Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 are offered.

Donkey basketball game Jan. 27
The Indian Land Athletic Booster Club will hold its annual donkey basketball game, sponsored by Founders Federal Credit Union and Hwy 55 Restaurant, at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at Indian Land High School. Tickets are $5 in advance at the in the ILHS main office or at the door. There will be a 50/50 raffle, half-time donkey rides for kids are $2, and concessions from Hwy 55 will be sold.

Warriors spring sports tryouts
Indian Land High School tryouts for baseball, softball, boys and girls soccer and track are Jan. 29.
Tryouts for boys and girls track are Feb. 5.
All students who want to try out for a sport must have an updated physical dated April 1, 2017, or beyond. Students must have a planetHS account as well.

Dixie Baseball sets registration

Lancaster Dixie Baseball will open registration for the 2018 youth baseball season Jan. 29 at United Forklift, 2175 McIlwain Road, Lancaster.

The first session of registration is Jan. 29-Feb. 2, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Registration will also be Feb. 3 and 10, 9 a.m.-noon; and Feb. 5-9 and Feb. 12-16, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
