Some northern IL roads closed for intersection work

Beware: Roadwork has commenced at the intersection of Calvin Hall and  Harrisburg roads and Elmsbrook Lane in northern Indian Land.
It’s all part of privately funded traffic improvements being undertaken by the developers of Avondale, a 189-acre mixed-use community under construction.
Work crews are installing a roundabout at the intersection, explained David Gamble, District 4 permit engineer with the S.C. Department of Transportation.
The work began July 27 and should hopefully be completed before the new school year begins Aug. 20, Gamble said.
Though SCDOT is not directly involved in the private project outside of permitting, Gamble said motorists could experience full closures and detours on weekends as work progresses.
Some roads are closed to all but local traffic.
“All other work will be done under flaggers, so there might be lane closures, but there shouldn’t be detours … during the week,” he said.
Once completed, the roundabout should prove beneficial to traffic flow in and around the development, Gamble said.
“It was a more cost-effective solution than signalization … and also it should definitely help with moving traffic and a lot of the backups you see in that area,” he said.
