Indian Land schools salute veterans 

- Harrisburg Elementary students will perform “A Veterans Day Celebration” at 6 and 7 p.m. Nov. 9.

- Indian Land Middle will host 44 veterans throughout the day Nov. 10. Each will speak with students in different classrooms about their experiences.

- Indian Land High School’s FFA will host a breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 10 for veterans and their spouses, followed by a program at 9:20 a.m. for the entire student body, staff and faculty. There will be a speaker and chorus and band performances. The ILHS JROTC will be in a massed formation with a salute to each different branch of the service.

ILMS holds parent/teacher meetings

Indian Land Middle School will hold parent/teacher conferences 4-7 p.m. Nov. 9.

Family Literacy Night Nov. 10

All Indian Land schools are invited to a night of food trucks, performances and special guests at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Indian Land High School, 8063 River Road, Indian Land. Everyone who attends will receive a free book from the bookmobile.

Junior Honor Society hosts cleanup Nov. 11

The Indian Land Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society will host a Campus Fall Cleanup and Beautification Day at the school 8:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 11. Students, parents, staff and community members will spread mulch, trim bushes, plant bulbs and work on other parts of the campus, focusing on the horseshoe area and carpool lane. 

NJHS students will receive service hours and should check in with Stephanie Secker when they arrive. Students must be accompanied by an adult. 

Items needed for the cleanup include shovels, rakes, yard waste bags, tulip and daffodil bulbs, potting soil, pots, trimmers and leaf blowers.

GSSM hosts open house Nov. 11

The Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics, 401 Railroad Ave., Hartsville, will host a preview day for prospective high school sophomores and their families 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 11. 

The open house event will provide prospective students and parents with a chance to meet faculty, staff and students, take part in a series of informational panels and participate in student-guided campus tours. Students must meet all GSSM admissions requirements to attend a Preview Day.

Quality Pool $1,000 scholarship contest

Quality Pool and Spa will provide a $1,000 scholarship to the winning artist who creates original Christmas card art for the business. All students kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to enter. Deadline for entries is Nov. 15; customers may vote through Dec. 2.

Teacher’s school supply drawing

Lancaster County teachers may enter a drawing to receive $150 in school supplies sponsored by ArrowPointe Federal Credit Union. If teachers have an account or open an account, their name will be entered in the drawing to be awarded Jan. 2. Deadline to enter is Dec. 1.

Ralph Norman seeks interns

U.S. District 5 Congressman Ralph Norman is seeking interns for the remainder of the fall 2017 semester and the spring 2018 semester. Unpaid interns will conduct legislative research, assist with front office operations, help with constituent relations, conduct Capitol tours and learn from staff about the day-to-day operations of a congressional office.
