SCCL school supply drive a success

-A A +A

The Sun City Carolina Lakes Volunteers and Helping Hands recently completed their annual school supply drive with great success.
Over a two-week period, residents donated school supplies, more than $2,000 in monetary donations  and gift cards to benefit area students as they head back to school.
The generosity of the people who live in Sun City Carolina Lakes is awesome!
On Aug. 6, an army of volunteers sorted, packed and delivered supplies to Indian Land, Harrisburg, Clinton, Brooklyn Springs and Van Wyck elementary schools. Indian Land Middle School and the Lancaster Children’s Home also received school supplies.
The donated supplies included 725 composition books, 430 boxes of crayons and over 5,000 pencils. Many boxes of calculators, glue sticks, dry-erase markers, Lysol spray, hand sanitizer and other school supplies were also donated.
Many Lancaster County students simply do not have the money to buy their school supplies, with  teachers sometimes needing to buy supplies for their classroom out of their own pockets.
Sun City residents’ generosity reduced the burden for many parents and teachers.
The delivered supplies were met with overwhelming praise and thanks for the donations. Some volunteers reported the shedding of happy tears when the recipients  saw the size of the donation.
The Sun City Carolina Lakes volunteers who collected and sorted supplies, monitored lobby tables, as well as those who sorted and delivered the supplies are to be commended.
