Sawyer wins Lower State cross country meet

ILHS girls place third, boys ninth in state qualifier

Indian Land High School sophomore Hannah Sawyer won the girls meet at the AAA Lower State cross country meet Saturday, Oct. 28, placing first with a time of 19:49.
Sawyer and both Indian Land High cross country teams will be running in the state championship meet this weekend. The teams competed in the AAA Lower State meet at Darlington Middle School. The meet is a qualifier for the state championship, with the top 10 teams qualifying for the state meet. 
The ILHS girls team placed third out of 16 teams with 79 points, while the ILHS boys team placed ninth out of 21 teams with 240 points.
IL’s Kaitlyn Rodman placed 12th at 21:12, Lauren Sizemore 21st at 21:34, Adriana Wilson 22nd at 21:38 and Mattie-Baile Tripp 23rd at 21:38. Sara Valle 22:02 and Baileigh Sizemore 22:30 also competed for the IL team.
Waccamaw High School won the girls meet with 45 points, May River second with 58, Indian Land third with 79, Bluffton fourth with 94, Pelion fifth with 153, Bishop England sixth with 196, Camden seventh with 218, Aynor eighth with 261, Gilbert ninth with 263 and Georgetown 10th with 274. All qualified for the state meet.
Eighth-grader Maddox Yegge led the Warriors, placing 25th with a time of 18:12.  Walker Reeves placed 38th at 18:34. Juan Alejandro 18:59, Connor Leyland 19:10, Noah Kiger 19:32, Kelton Bloxham 19:48 and Jared Diemer 20:21 also competed for the IL team.
Both IL teams will travel to the state championship Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Sandhills Clemson Research Center.
