IL girls place 4th, boys 16th in AAA cross country championship

Indian Land High School sophomore Hannah Sawyer finished second in the girls AAA cross country state meet Saturday, Nov. 4.
“This is the highest finish ever for a girl in school history for cross country,” IL coach Christopher Cuviello said. “Hannah also made all-state for finishing in the top 15 overall.”
The ILHS girls team placed fourth in the SCHSL State Championship meet at the Clemson Sandhills Research Center in Columbia.
Waccamaw High School won the meet with 64 points, May River High School was second with 114, Bluffton High School third with 129 points, Indian  Land fourth with 141 points , and Palmetto High School fifth with 149. 
The Lady Warriors’ fourth-place finish ties the school’s best placing at the state meet. They finished fourth as an AA team in 2015.
Sawyer led the Lady Warriors with a time of 19:49. Kaitlyn Rodman placed 21st with a time of 21:41. Lauren Sizemore placed 27th with a time of 21:53. Baileigh Sizemore was 36th at 22:23, Adriana Wilson 55th at 23:10. Mattie-Baile Tripp, 24:32, and Sara Valle, 24:41, also competed for ILHS.
The ILHS boys team placed 16th out of 20 teams in the AAA race.
Sophomore Walker Reeves led the Warriors, placing 50th with a time of 18:29. Maddox Yegge placed 56th at 18:37. Connor Leyland placed 64th at 18:54. Juan Alejandro, 20:02, Noah Kiger, 20:55, Kelton Bloxham, 20:56, and Jared Diemer, 21:23, also competed for ILHS.
