Temple Solel meets Fridays

St. John’s UMC posts events

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 160 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events:
• Fifth Sunday Breakfast will be 9:30-10:45 a.m. Sept. 30. There will be no Sunday school that day.
• St. John’s Grief Support Group meets at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 30. Beginning Oct. 10, the group will meet every Wednesday.
• Church Family Ministries is hosting a game evening 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 30. Pizza, snacks and drinks will be provided. Bring your favorite non-electronic game to share and play with church members. All are welcome.

• The church’s book club, which meets the second Monday of each month, welcomes all who enjoy a good read and a little discussion.  
• The United Methodist Women’s Oktoberfest is 9-2 p.m. Oct. 20. This is a major fundraiser for women’s missions. Start looking for your knick-knacks for the This and That Shop, and tell all your friends to come for the United Methodist Men’s stew, vendors and baked goods.


NAMI support groups meet

• The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Connections (for adults with mental health conditions) and Family Support groups meets at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 1 (first Monday and third Thursday of each month) at First Presbyterian Church, 700 N. AA meets at Belair UMC
Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road. Meetings are open discussion, with speakers on third Wednesdays.

Moriah Baptist session Oct. 2
The Moriah Baptist Association will host its annual session and celebration of missions 4:30-6 p.m. Oct. 2 at Fork Hill Baptist Church, 1125 Fork Hill Road, Heath Springs.
Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and worship will be at 7 p.m. Springdell Baptist Church will present the music and the Rev. Donnie Tillmon will deliver the message.

Belair pantry open Oct. 4
The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 4. The pantry is for those who live in the Panhandle schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome on the first and third Thursday of each month. Donations of food or money are also welcome at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.

Faith blesses animals Oct. 6
Faith Presbyterian Church will conduct its first Blessing of the Animals service at 3 p.m. Oct. 6 on the church grounds, 7520 Charlotte Highway, at the intersection of U.S. 521 and Van Wyck Road, Indian Land. The ceremony will take place rain or shine. All animals must be on leashes or in cages. If your pet does not travel well, you are welcome to bring a photo to be blessed. Owners will be responsible for their pets.

El Bethel car/bike show Oct. 6

El Bethel AME Zion Church, 8631 Henry Harris Road, Indian Land, will host a car and bike show at 11 a.m. Oct. 6. Car and bike entry fee is a $5 donation. Trophies will be awarded and there will be a 50/50 raffle. Fish, chicken, sausage, hot dogs, sides and desserts will be available. For details, call (704) 421-2732 or (803) 287-3454.

Blessing of the Animals service Oct. 7
Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, will host a Blessing of the Animals service at 3 p.m. Oct. 7 on the front lawn. All are welcome and may bring any leashed or caged animals.

Pleasant Hill UMC posts events

Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, will hold these events this fall:

• The PHKids children’s ministry is collecting items for Operation Christmas Child Oct. 1-Nov. 11. Donations of small items for boxes and/or filled shoeboxes can be dropped off at the church office.

• The PHYouth student ministry (sixth-12th grades) meets 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sundays. It is discussing the book “Counter Culture” by David Platt, which talks about where Jesus and culture collide. The ministry also offers youth Bible study 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
• The church’s homeless mat ministry, the Mad Matters, makes waterproof and cushiony mats from plastic grocery bags for the homeless. From sorting bags, cutting them into strips, making “plarn” out of strips and crocheting the mats, there are opportunities for all to serve. The group meets 1-3 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month (except December) in the fellowship hall.
• The Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Support Group meets in the church library at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 (third Thursday of each month). It offers support to those who are caring for loved ones afflicted with varying types of dementia.

Hospice caregivers meet ay Belair UMC
Hospice Care of S.C.’s caregiver support group meets 10-11 a.m. Oct. 17 (third Wednesday of each month) in Belair United Methodist Church’s family life center, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, Indian Land. For details, call Cory Turner at (803) 577-4912.

PVB hosts women’s dinner, worship Oct. 19

Pleasant Valley Baptist Church invites women to an evening of dinner and worship focusing on hospitality at 6 p.m. Oct. 19. Guest speaker is Gwen Hollingsworth. Cost is $15 per ticket, available 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the church office, 211 Marvin Road, Indian Land
