St. John’s UMC posts fall events
St. John’s United Methodist Church, 160 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events:
• St. John’s Music Makers (elementary and preschool) choir rehearsals begin Sept. 12. Email Kathie Riebe at sjumcmusic@comporium.net for details.
• St. John’s VIP (seniors) group will take a Christian Tours trip to The Ark and The Creation Museum on Sept. 12-14. Friends and family are welcome. For details, email mjackson107 @yahoo.com.
• The United Methodist Men will meet for a full breakfast and fellowship at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 16.
• The Mary Osborne Circle will prepare dinner Sept. 17 for the students at Winthrop’s Wesley Foundation.
• Wednesday night meals and vespers services will resume Sept. 19. Prices and serving time will be the same as last year. Volunteers, especially men, are needed for the heavy work.
• The next Gourmet Travelers’ lunch will be 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at the Rock Hill Diner, 2254 Cherry Road, Rock Hill. Sign up with Heather Myers hmyers@unifiedav.com.
• The church-wide family picnic is 4-6 p.m. Sept. 23 at the church. There will be a corn hole tournament and other games. Fried chicken, tea and lemonade will be provided. Bring a side dish or dessert.

• The Disciple 1 class begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 23. It is an in-depth study of much of the Bible, both Old and New Testament, featuring the historical background behind it. It takes about an hour a day of preparation and reading of the Bible and the workbook. The two-hour class includes a video. Although this is written by United Methodist theologians, others are welcome. Call (803) 547-7538 to sign up.
• Fifth Sunday Breakfast will be 9:30-10:45 a.m. Sept. 30. There will be no Sunday school that day.
• St. John’s Grief Support Group meets at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 30. Beginning Oct. 10, the group willl meet every Wednesday.
• Church Family Ministries is hosting a Game Evening 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 30. Pizza, snacks and drinks will be provided. Bring your favorite non-electronic game to share and play with church members. All are welcome.

• The church’s book club, which meets the second Monday of each month, welcomes all who enjoy a good read and a little discussion.  
•  The United Methodist Women’s Oktoberfest is 9-2 p.m. Oct. 20. This is a major fundraiser for women’s missions. Start looking for your knick-knacks for the This and That Shop, and tell all your friends to come for the United Methodist Men’s stew, vendors and baked goods.

Senior Fall Festival canceled
The Moriah Baptist Association has canceled its Senior Adult Fall Festival scheduled for Thursday, due to impending Hurrican Florence. It will be rescheduled later. For details, call (803) 283-8409.

Temple holds High Holidays
Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, is offering High Holidays services at St. Philip Neri Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, as follows:

Pleasant Hill UMC blood drive Sept. 19

Belair pantry open Sept. 20
The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 20. The pantry is for those who live in the Panhandle schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome on the first and third Thursday of each month. Donations of food or money are also welcome at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.

Women’s Bible study at PVB
Pleasant Valley Women’s Ministry will host a seven-week fall women’s Bible study, “Just Open the Door” by Jen Schmidt. The study will be at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Sept. 24. The cost is $10. To reserve a spot, call (803) 548-7208.
Women are also invited to an evening of dinner and worship focusing on hospitality at 6 p.m. Oct. 19. Guest speaker is Gwen Hollingsworth. Cost is $15 per ticket, available 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the church office, 211 Marvin Road, Indian Land.

Moriah Baptist session Oct. 2
The Moriah Baptist Association will host its annual session and celebration of missions 4:30-6 p.m. Oct. 2 at Fork Hill Baptist Church, 1125 Fork Hill Road, Heath Springs. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and worship will be at 7 p.m. Springdell Baptist Church will present the music and the Rev. Donnie Tillmon will deliver the message. Tickets for the buffet meal are $10, available through Sept. 25 through the Moriah Baptist Association. For details, call (803) 283-8409.

Faith mobile pantry Oct. 4
Faith Presbyterian Church, 7520 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, will sponsor a Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry on Oct. 4. The pantry truck will be in the parking lot of the new church building at the intersection of U.S. 521 and Van Wyck Road.
Previous mobile pantries were held at Belair United Methodist Church on Shelley Mullis Road.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the distribution of food should begin at about 9 a.m.
Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, until it is gone. Recipients must meet USDA income eligibility guidelines. An acceptable form of ID is required at the time of registration. This distribution is open to all who are in need in our communities.
This is the third of four mobile pantries that Faith Presbyterian will host this year. The final mobile pantry for this year is Nov. 14.
Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, continues to operate a food pantry for Indian Land residents twice a month. Donations of food and/or cash may be dropped off at the Belair church office 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday. Please continue to support this important ministry in Indian Land.

NAMI support groups meet

Faith holds Blessing of the Animals Oct. 6
Faith Presbyterian Church will conduct its first Blessing of the Animals service at 3 p.m. Oct. 6 on the church grounds, 7520 Charlotte Highway, at the intersection of U.S. 521 and Van Wyck Road, Indian Land. The ceremony will take place rain or shine. All animals must be on leashes or in cages. If your pet does not travel well, you are welcome to bring a photo to be blessed. Owners will be responsible for their pets.

Byzantines gather at St. Philip Neri
