Church bowling league meeting Aug. 30
Lancaster Bowling Center, 1352 Reece Road, will host a multi-denominational church bowling league starting Sept. 6.
 Those interested in participating should visit the bowling center at 6 p.m. Aug. 30 for details.

St. John’s UMC posts upcoming fall events

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 160 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events:
• St. John’s Grief Support Group meets at 4:30 p.m. every other Wednesday. The next meeting is Sept. 5.
• The church’s book club meets at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 in the men’s Bible study room off the fellowship hall. Share your favorite summer read.
Suggestions of upcoming books to choose from are “If I Love” by Terri Blackstock, “The Masterpiece” by Francine Rivers, “The Hideaway” by Lauren Denton and “The Letter” by Kathryn Hughes.
• St. John’s choir rehearsals begin next month for all choirs: Music Makers (elementary and preschool), Sept. 12; Joyful Ringers (bell choir), Sept. 4; Men’s Ensemble, Sept. 8. Contact Kathie Riebe at sjumcmusic@comporium.net for details.
• Wednesday night meals and services will resume Sept. 12. Volunteers, especially men, are needed for the heavy work.
u St. John’s VIP (seniors) group will take a Christian Tours trip to The Ark and The Creation Museum on Sept. 12-14. Friends and family are welcome to come, too. Fliers are in the lobby. For details, email mjackson107@yahoo.com.
• A new Disciple! class will begin this fall. It is an in-depth study of much of the Bible, both Old and New Testament, featuring the historical background behind it. It takes about an hour a day of preparation and reading of the Bible and the accompanying workbook.
The two-hour class includes an accompanying video. Time and teacher are yet to be announced.
Although this is written by United Methodist theologians, others are welcome. Call (803) 547-7538 if you are interested.
• The United Methodist Women reminds members that its Oktoberfest is not far off. This is a major fundraiser for women’s missions. Start looking for your knick-knacks for the This and That Shop and tell all your friends to come for the United Methodist Men’s stew, vendors and baked goods 9-2 p.m. Oct. 20.

Belair UMC food pantry open Sept. 6
The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon Sept 6. The pantry is for those who live in the Panhandle schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome on the first and third Thursday of each month. Donations of food or money are also welcome at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.

NAMI support groups meet
• The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Family Support Group meets 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 6 (first Thursday of each month) in Room 203 at Transformation Church, 8978 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land. For details, contact Sue Korn at (704) 575-5928 or suekorn08@gmail.com.

Homecoming at FM church Sept. 9
Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, 109 Harris St., Fort Mill, will celebrate homecoming  with combined services at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 9. Dr. Marvin  Jones, music/ worship professor at Olivet Nazarene University, will be the guest soloist. The Rev. Brian Watts will direct the Chancel Choir, and the Rev. Joshua Fite will bring the morning message. Lunch will be served in the family life center after the service.

Temple Solel meets Sept. 14

Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, holds Shabbat services at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 (second and fourth Fridays of each month) in the community room at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill.
