Belair food pantry Aug. 3

The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon Aug. 3 for those who live in the Indian Land and Harrisburg schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome. The pantry is open the first and third Thursday of each month.

Donations of food or money to buy food are also welcome at the church office 9 a.m.-noon weekdays.

St. John’s posts events

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1310 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold these events this summer:

- The youth of St. John’s will go tubing on the Catawba River on Aug. 5. Meet at the Fort Mill Dam boat launch at 10 a.m. Bring your own tube, snacks, water and sunscreen. Pick-up is at Riverwalk. For details, email shawnhwell130@gmail.com.

- A group from St. John’s will attend the Charlotte Knights vs. Gwinnett Braves baseball game at BB&T Ballpark at 5 p.m. Aug. 6. Tickets are $18 each. Contact Heather Myers at Hmysers@unifieday.com or (704) 574-5224 for details.

Crossroads camp Aug. 7-11

Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Road, will hold a youth day camp from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 7-11. The camp is for ages first through fifth grade. The camp is hosted by Agape Kure Beach Ministries and the theme is “The Water of Life.” Camp costs $25 per child or $40 per family. Scholarships are available if needed. Back to School Bash Aug. 12

The Lancaster Back to School Bash is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 12 at the University of South Carolina Lancaster’s Bradley Building, 476 Hubbard Drive, Lancaster.

Lancaster County students in need in kindergarten through 12th grade will be given a new pair of shoes, backpack, school supplies, hair cuts and free food. 

Students should register at www.lancasterbacktoschoolbash.com. The event is sponsored by Samaritan’s Feet, local churches, businesses and nonprofits.

Next JAARS Day Aug. 12

The next JAARS Day is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 12 at 7405 JAARS Road, Waxhaw. 

The open house will feature missionary stories, rides in an airplane, helicopter, boat or four-wheel-drive vehicle, media demonstrations in various languages, children’s activities, ethnic clothes and musical instruments from other cultures. 

The Museum of the Alphabet and the Mexico-Cardenas Museum will be open to visitors.

Mobile food pantry Aug. 14

Faith Presbyterian and Belair United Methodist churches will host a Second Harvest mobile food pantry at 9 a.m. Aug. 14 in the parking lot of Belair UMC, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, with registration at 8:30 a.m. An ID is required at registration.

Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Recipients must meet income eligibility guidelines established by the USDA. 

This is the second mobile pantry this year, with another scheduled for Nov. 9. For details, call (803) 548-8810.   

Stewardship dinner Aug. 22

The Moriah Baptist Association will hold its annual Stewardship Banquet at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at First Baptist Church, 300 S. Market St., Lancaster. Dr. Gary Hollingsworth of the S.C. Baptist Convention will speak and One Award Barbershop Quartet will perform. Tickets, $9 each, are available through Aug. 10. For details or tickets, call (803) 283-8409.

AA meets at Belair UMC

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the social hall at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road. The meetings are open discussion, with speakers on the third Wednesday of the month.

Book club studies St. Francis

The book club of Our Lady of Grace Church, 7095 Waxhaw Highway, Lancaster, is studying “The Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi” by Brother Ugolino at 1 p.m. Mondays in the parish hall. All are welcome. For details, call (803) 283-4969.

Sunday school training Aug. 26

The Moriah Baptist Association and the S.C. Baptist Convention will host a small group Sunday school training session 8:45-11:45 a.m. Aug. 26 at Covenant Baptist Church, 165 Craig Manor Road, Lancaster. This free training session is for pastors, general officers and adult, youth, children, nursery and pre-school teachers. 

- The Moriah Baptist Association will hold a church treasurer, finance team and legal update training session 7-8:30 p.m. Aug. 29 in the Moriah Baptist Missions Center, 914 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, with a meal served at 6:30 p.m. This is a free training session. Attendees must be registered by Aug. 24.

Crossroads prayer garden open to public

The Community Prayer Garden on the grounds of Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Road, is open to the public from 8 a.m. to sunset each day. Prayer booklets and visitor guides are available at the entrance. It can be accessed from parking lots on either side. For details, visit www.CrossroadsLutheran.church.

Belair UMW invites women to meetings

Belair United Methodist Women meet at 10:30 a.m. the second Wednesday and 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month in the family life center at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road.

All women are invited to attend the meeting time of their choice for uplifting programs and social interaction.

Praying for America on Wednesdays

Praying for America is noon-1 p.m. Wednesdays at the Moriah Baptist Association, 914 W. Meeting St., Lancaster. The prayers are focused on the moral and spiritual direction of America. For details, call (803) 287-8099.
