El Bethel mortgage-burning ceremony
El Bethel AME Zion Church, 8631 Henry Harris Road, Indian Land, held a mortgage-burning ceremony at 3 p.m. Oct. 28. Bishop Mildred B. Hines spoke at the event, which drew AME Zion pastors, evangelists and conference and district officers.

Belair pantry open Nov. 1
Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, opens its  food pantry for Indian Land residents 9 a.m.-noon the first and third Thursday of each month. The next date is Nov. 1. Donations of food or cash may be dropped off at the Belair church office 9 a.m.-noon weekdays.


Mad Matters meet Nov. 1

The Mad Matters homeless mat ministry of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, meets 1-3 p.m. Nov. 1 (first and third Thursday of each month, except December) in the fellowship hall to make waterproof mats for the homeless.

Learn about Byzantine Catholics Nov. 3
What is a Byzantine Catholic? Come experience the “Eastern Church” at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 E. Munn Road, Fort Mill, for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 4 p.m. Saturdays. It is part of the universal church in union with Rome.
An explanation of the Byzantine rite is held every first Saturday of the month – Nov. 3, along with a coffee social after the liturgy. There will be activities for children 12 and younger during the talk.

World Day of Prayer Program Nov. 5
The Moriah Baptist Association’s WMU will host a World Day of Prayer Program Nov. 5. The morning program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Moriah Baptist Association Center, 914 W. Free movie Nov. 9 at Crossroads Lutheran
Crossroads Lutheran Church, at the corner of Shelley Mullis and Henry Harris roads, Indian Land, will show a free movie, “I Can Only Imagine,” at 7 p.m. Nov. 9. This movie is the true story of how faith at a young age helped Bart Millard, lead singer of the group Mercy Me, overcome obstacles and lead him to unexpected success. Bart wrote the song, “I Can Only Imagine,” in minutes in response to an emotional turmoil. It has become the No. 1 contemporary Christian song. All ages can benefit from the message in this movie. Bring your own snacks and beverages.

PHKids Operation Christmas Child drive

The PHKids Children’s Ministry of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, is collecting small items for Operation Christmas Child through Nov. 11 at the church office. Donations of small items for boxes and/or filled shoeboxes can be dropped off at the church office.


Drop off shoeboxes at Crossroads

Crossroads Lutheran Church, at the corner of Shelley Mullis and Henry Harris roads in Indian Land, will again be a collection site for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Collection dates and hours are 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 12-17 and Nov. 19, and 1-3 p.m. Nov. 18. For more information on packing a shoebox, and how you can get involved, visit www.samaritanpurse.org.


Faith hosts mobile food pantry Nov. 14

Faith Presbyterian Church, 7520 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, will sponsor a Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry on Nov. 14. The truck will be in the parking lot of the new Faith Presbyterian Church building at the intersection of U.S. 521 and Van Wyck Road. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the distribution of food at about 9 a.m.
Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, until it is gone. Recipients must meet USDA income-eligibility guidelines. This distribution is open to all in need.
This will be Faith’s fourth and final mobile pantry this year. Dates and locations for next year should be available in January.
Faith Presbyterian Church is one of 29 churches that conduct mobile food pantries in Lancaster and York counties through their affiliation with the Catawba Area Agency on Aging in Rock Hill.
Belair United Methodist Church continues to operate a food pantry for Indian Land residents twice a month. Donations of food and cash may be dropped off at the Belair church office 9-noon Monday-Friday. Please continue to support this important ministry in Indian Land.

Moriah Senior Adult Fall Festival Nov. 15
The Moriah Baptist Association has rescheduled the Moriah Senior Adult Fall Festival for 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at Sherwood Baptist Church, 1030 Darlene Blvd., Lancaster. Christian cowboy entertainer “Dandy Don” will present a classic western/cowboy music program. Each participating church is requested to bring a crock pot of chili and a dessert for approximately each 10 people attending. Tickets already purchased will be honored. Alzheimer’s group meets Nov. 15
The Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Support Group of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 (third Thursday each month) in the church library. The group offers support to those who are caring for loved ones with dementia.

Women’s Empowerment Conference Nov. 17

ONE STEP ministry meets Thursdays
Antioch International Church, 8400 Regent Parkway, Fort Mill, hosts its ONE STEP ministry at 7 p.m. every Thursday. ONE STEP is for those interested in recovering from depression, substance abuse and other types of addiction, abuse, PTSD and anger.


AA meets weekly at Belair UMC

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road. Meetings are open discussion, with speakers on third Wednesdays.

Addiction ministry meets in Lancaster

• The PHYouth student ministry (sixth-12th grades) meets 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sundays. It is discussing the book “Counter Culture” by David Platt, which talks about where Jesus and culture collide. The ministry also offers youth Bible study 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
