St. John’s UMC posts events
St. John’s United Methodist Church, 160 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events:
• Grief Support Group meets at 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
• The WEE School’s Fall and Winter Consignment/Bake Sale is Oct. 11-15 in the fellowship hall. To volunteer or donate items to the sales, contact Beth at sjumcweschol@gmail.com. The pumpkin patch next to the church is now open.
• R.E.A.L. Kids Friends and Fun at Hall Family Farm is 3-5 p.m. Oct. 13. This is for kindergarten to fifth-graders, but the whole family may stay after drop-off at the Hall Family Farm, 10713 Providence Road West, Charlotte.
Sign up on the yellow sheet in the communication center. Combo tickets (includes corn maze and hayride) are $10 for ages 3 and up; ages 2 and under get in free.

• The church’s book club, which meets the second Monday of each month, welcomes all who enjoy a good read and a little discussion.

Temple Solel meets Oct. 12
Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, holds Shabbat services at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 (second and fourth Fridays of each month) in the community room at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill. Zimak to speak Oct. 13
Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Highway, Lancaster, will host guest speaker Gary Zimak to talk about his book, “From Fear to Faith” 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 13. After the talk, there will be a book signing and the author’s books will be sold.

JAARS Day Oct. 13
The next JAARS Day Open House is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at the JAARS Center, 7405 Jaars Road, Waxhaw, N.C. The open house will feature plane and helicopter rides, off-roading, pilot demonstrations and much more. Rides are limited. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis.

OLOG hosts reception for pastor Oct. 16

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Highway, Lancaster, will host a reception immediately following the Liturgy of the Word service at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 to celebrate Father Jeffrey F. Belair pantry open Oct. 18
Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, opens its  food pantry for Indian Land residents 9 a.m.-noon the first and third Thursday of each month. The next date is Oct. 18. Donations of food or cash may be dropped off at the Belair church office 9 a.m.-noon weekdays.

Mad Matters meet Oct. 18
The Mad Matters homeless mat ministry of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, meets 1-3 p.m. Oct. 18 (first and third Thursday of each month, except December) in the fellowship hall to make waterproof mats for the homeless.


Alzheimer’s group meets

The Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Support Group of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 (third Thursday of each month) in the church library. The group offers support to those who are caring for loved ones with various types of dementia.

Hospice caregivers meet Oct. 17
Hospice Care of S.C.’s caregiver support group meets 10-11 a.m. Oct. 17 (third Wednesday of each month) in Belair United Methodist Church’s family life center, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, Indian Land. For details, call Cory Turner at (803) 577-4912.

NAMI support groups meet
• The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Connections (for adults with mental health conditions) and Family Support groups meet at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 18 (first Monday and third Thursday of each month) at First Presbyterian Church, 700 N. PVB hosts women’s dinner, worship Oct. 19
Pleasant Valley Baptist Church invites women to an evening of dinner and worship focusing on hospitality at 6 p.m. Oct. 19. Guest speaker is Gwen Hollingsworth. Cost is $15 per ticket, available 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the church office, 211 Marvin Road, Indian Land.

Pleasant Hill UMC posts events

Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, will hold these events this fall:
• The PHKids children’s ministry is collecting items for Operation Christmas Child through Nov. 11. Donations of small items for boxes and/or filled shoeboxes can be dropped off at the church office.
• The PHYouth student ministry (sixth-12th grades) meets 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sundays. It is discussing the book “Counter Culture” by David Platt, which talks about where Jesus and culture collide. The ministry also offers youth Bible study 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

• The United Methodist Women’s Oktoberfest is 9-2 p.m. Oct. 20. The free event will include bake sale, vendors, silent auction and a pumpkin patch, and stew and barbecue will be available.

Pleasant Valley Fall Festival Oct. 20
Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 211 Marvin Road, Indian Land, will host its annual Fall Festival from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 20. The event includes food, candy, prizes, inflatables, animals and carnival games. The event is free and open to the public.


St. John’s Oktoberfest Oct. 20

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will host Oktoberfest from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 20. The free event will include bake sale, Shabby Chic sale, vendors, silent auction and a pumpkin patch. Brunswick stew, barbecue sandwiches and hot dogs will be sold beginning at 11 a.m.
 

MBA prayer training session Oct. 23
The Moriah Baptist Association will host a free training session titled, ‘Prayer: The Next Level’ from 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Moriah Missions Center, 914 W. Meeting St., Lancaster. Katie Whitaker, Prayer Coordinator for the South Carolina Baptist Convention, will lead the session. Registration is suggested, but not required. For details or to register, call (803) 283-8409.

Pleasant Hill UMC fall festival Oct. 27
Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, will host a fall festival Oct. 27. A yard sale will be held at 7 a.m. and there will be barbecue, a bake sale and a prayer bead sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Hay rides and a kid’s bounce house will be available 11 a.m.-1 p.m.


Churches host trunk or treat
• Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, will host its annual Trunk’o’Treat celebration at 5 p.m. Oct. 28. Snow cones, hot dogs and popcorn will be sold.
• Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 211 Marvin Road, Indian Land, will host its annual Trunk or Treat  5-7 p.m. Oct. 28.
• St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold Trunk or Treat 5-7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the church parking lot. Costumes optional.

Operation Christmas Child drive

The PHKids Children’s Ministry of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, will sponsor a drive for Operation Christmas Child and will collect items through Nov. 11. Donations of small items for boxes and/or filled shoeboxes can be dropped off at the church office.


Byzantines gather at St. Philip Neri

What is a Byzantine Catholic? Come experience the “Eastern Church” at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 E. Munn Road, Fort Mill, for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 4 p.m. Saturdays.
It is part of the universal church in union with Rome.
An explanation of the Byzantine Rite will be held every first Saturday of the month, along with a coffee social after the liturgy. There will be activities for children 12 and younger during the talk.
The Ruthenian Byzantine Catholics meet in the parish center, adjacent to the church and the ministry center across from the church.

AA meets weekly at Belair UMC

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road. Meetings are open discussion, with speakers on third Wednesdays.

Addiction ministry meets in Lancaster
