Friends of the Del Webb Library will host a September Local Carolina Authors Talk featuring authors Marybeth Whalen and Joy Callaway from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Del Webb Library, 7641 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land.
Marybeth Whalen of Matthews, N.C., will discuss her latest book, “When We Were Worthy.” This book is about a small town devastated by a car crash causing the death of three cheerleaders. The story walks through the lives of those who are most affected by the tragedy as the story unveils the truth be-hind the accident.
“When We Were Worthy” comes out this month. Whalen has published six novels since 2010, including “The Things We Wish Were True,” published last year. She is also cofounder of a popular women’s fiction website called She Reads.
Joy Callaway of Charlotte will discuss her latest book, “Se-cret Sisters.” This historical novel, set in 1881, de-tails the difficult journey one young woman takes to compete studying in a male-dominated field, while also creating the first female sorority. The main character must forge alliances and put everything on the line to make her vision of establishing the first official female sorority a reality.
Local Carolina Authors Talk will give each author the opportunity to discuss her book and answer questions. The authors will sign and sell books at the event. The talk is free and open to the public.
Friends of the Del Webb Library hosts two to three author talks every year. The events are paid for by money raised through Friends of the Del Webb Library memberships.
