The Indian Land Lady Warriors, fresh off winning the District IV-AAA championship, opened the Class AAA Upper State title series with a convincing 10-3 home win over Union County High School on Friday, May 3.
The Lady Yellow Jackets opened an early lead in the first inning on a solo home run for a 1-0 lead, but the Lady Warriors answered with Danielle Wilson’s two-run homer to spark a five-run rally in the bottom of the first inning.
That proved to be pivotal as the 19-4 Lady Warriors steadily pulled away for the seven-run win.
Union sliced the gap to a 6-3 lead, but Indian Land responded with three key runs in the fourth inning on a Wilson RBI-double and a towering Payton Darnell two-run home run for a 9-3 spread.
Wilson led the Lady Warriors’ attack with a two-run homer, a double, three RBIs and scored two runs.
Darnell smashed a two-run homer, singled, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Rachel Sadak supplied a double, single, and scored two runs.
Kendall Mallekoote had two hits and an RBI. Lexi Wilkinson drew two walks, scored two runs and had three stolen bases.
Gabby Wilson, the winning pitcher, worked four frames, allowing two hits and no runs. She struck out three.
