JV team opens with two victories

The Indian Land High School junior varsity football team opened its season in a big way, with back-to-back wins over Buford and Blacksburg high schools.
Junior Warriors swat Jackets
The JV Warriors cruised to a 32-12 win over county rival Buford at the ILHS Reservation on Aug. 24.
Junior Warriors quarterback Brandon Britton scored four touchdowns on runs of 40, 30, 15 and 30 yards in the 20-point win.
T.J. Thomas scored on a 10-yard run. Thomas and Britton each had over 100 yards rushing on the night.
Troy Thibodeau scored on a two-point conversion.
The JV Warriors’ defense was sparked by Devin Hood and Caleb Gleason, who each had a fumble recovery.
Indian Land held a 26-6 edge at the half.
“We had a good start and were able to build on it,” IL JV coach Cortez Starks said.
Junior Warriors whip Wildcats  
The Junior Warriors, keyed by the stellar play of quarterback Britton, improved to 2-0 on the football season with a 34-16 road win over the Blacksburg Junior Wildcats on Thursday, Aug. 31.
Britton, who ran for 200 yards on 12 carries, scored five touchdowns to key the JV Warriors’ 18-point win.
Britton had a 60-yard touchdown run to go with two 40-yard scoring dashes, a 50-yard TD sprint and a 15-yarder.
Yasir Speaks scored on a pair of two-point conversion receptions to aid the JV Warriors, who held a 16-8 halftime lead.
Thompson ran for 150 yards on 15 carries.
Jon Vashak led the Junior Warriors’ defense with 13 tackles on the night.
“This was a hard-fought game, played with a lot of intensity and passion, and we came out with a win,” Sparks said. “We’re pleased to be 2-0 on the season.”
Indian Land hosts Broome High at 7 p.m. Sept. 7.
