The Indian Land High School junior varsity football team improved its record to 2-3 on the season, taking a 13-10 comeback win over the Chester High School Junior Cyclones at the ILHS Reservation on Sept. 27.
The Junior Warriors, with 1:20 left to play, scored as quarterback Caleb Gleason hit Jeremiah Strickland on a 25-yard touchdown pass.
Indian Land broke on top with Gleason dashing 12 yards for the game’s opening score. Strickland kicked the extra point to put the Junior Warriors up, 7-0.
Chester rallied to notch a safety to make it 7-2 at the half.
The Junior Cyclones scored a touchdown and added a two-point conversion to take a 10-7 lead, but the Junior Warriors answered with Strickland’s scoring catch to seal the three-point win.
Drew Hardin had two interceptions for the Junior Warriors, one coming in the ILHS end zone to blunt a TD threat in the first half. Hardin’s second pick came in the second half.
“I was really proud of the effort we had tonight,” ILHS coach Bakari Burton said. “We’ve had some tough games the last few weeks, but tonight we fought back and displayed a lot of character and heart out there.
“Both sides of the ball played well to help us get this win.”
Indian Land will visit county rival Andrew Jackson High School for a non-region game Thursday, Oct. 4.
