S.C. Silver Haired Legislature to meet 

The Catawba Council of the S.C. Silver Haired Legislature meets at 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at Highland Park Senior Center, 917 Standard St., Rock Hill. All members of the community are welcome. Anyone interested in joining this group should contact Barbara Bugg at (803) 684-9288.

IL fire district board meets Feb. 21

The Indian Land Fire Protection District Board will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Indian Land Fire Station, 185 Six Mile Creek Road.

County Council meets Feb. 26

The Lancaster County Council meets at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Lancaster County Administration Building, 101 N. Main St., Lancaster.

VW Town Council special meeting Feb. 26

Van Wyck Town Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Van Wyck Community Center, 5036 Old Hickory Road, Van Wyck.

Library Board meets Feb. 27

The Lancaster County Library Board will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Lancaster County Library's Caroliniana Room, on 313 S. White St., Lancaster.

VW railroad crossing to close for repairs

The CSX Railroad crossing on Van Wyck Road is scheduled to close for repairs Feb. 28. Road detours will be in place and the crossing will be closed for two to five days, depending on unforeseen issues and the weather.

USCL career fair March 1

USC Lancaster, 476 Hubbard Drive, Lancaster, will hold a free career and information fair from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. March 1 in the Bradley Building. This will provide an opportunity for students to meet local businesses with full-time, part-time or internship positions. For details, call (803) 313-7590.

Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce’s next Morning Business Connection is 8:30-9:30 a.m. March 2 at Rebound Behavioral Health, 134 Rebound Road, Lancaster. Jennifer Radcliffe will speak on “Mental Health Treatment and When to Seek Help.”

Public fire safety meeting March 13

Lancaster County Fire Rescue will hold a special public safety meeting at 6 p.m. March 13 in USC Lancaster’s Bundy Auditorium, 476 Hubbard Drive, Lancaster. The meeting will be to discuss the county’s increase in fires and try to find solutions. All are welcome to attend. For details, visit firesafe.sc.gov.

CCA offers help with energy bills

The Lancaster County office of Carolina Community Actions Inc. is taking applications to help low-income families with home energy bills and other programs and services. Family households must be income-eligible and provide supporting documents to qualify. Apply 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday at 101 Wylie St., Lancaster. For details, call (803) 285-2034.

Senior rental help available

The Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging administers an emergency rental assistance program for seniors funded through the S.C. Finance and Development Authority.

The program provides short-term help to low-income seniors ages 60 and older. It provides money for rent, which is sent to the property owner or landlord.

Recover lost property from sheriff’s office

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office advertises found property on its website, www.lacoso.net. A list of the property, which has been recovered by deputies and placed into evidence for safekeeping, can be seen in the news section of the sheriff’s office website.

Rightful owners can contact the evidence and property unit at (803) 313-2102 to describe the item and claim ownership. The sheriff’s office is allowed by state law to dispose of the property after a 90-day period, after exhausting all reasonable efforts to find the legal owner.

DAV posts schedule for van to Columbia

The Disabled American Veterans van travels from Lancaster County to Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and to Rock Hill on Fridays for scheduled doctor appointments. For details, call (803) 283-2469.
