Indian Land High School, on the road to York County for the second straight week, ventures to Rock Hill to face the Class AAAAA RHHS Bearcats at District 3 Stadium.

“Rock Hill is a really good football team, with good size on the offensive and defensive lines. They run the ball well and have good receivers on the outside," said ILHS head coach Horatio Blades. "We have to be able to stop the run and we need our quarterback Grayson Barber to be consistent in the throwing game.

"We have to minimize turnovers, force some turnovers and take advantage of them. Field position is going to be a key.”

The Warriors football team, which earned votes in the Class AAA state media poll this week, are 2-1, including a 14-9 comeback win over Class AAAA foe York High School last week.

Rock Hill, 1-2, dropped a 36-14 road loss to Class AAA Chester High School, 3-0.  Rock Hill opened with a road loss to Sumter, 33-23, but rebounded with a 29-22 win over Rock Hill area Class AAA foe South Pointe High School.

The Bearcats’ coaching staff includes former Indian Land High School head football coach Mike Mayer, who guided the Warriors, 2001-16. Blades served as an assistant coach under Mayer.

The game tonight, Sept. 7, marks the first meeting between the two schools. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
