ILHS teams place 11th in state meet

The Indian Land High School cross country teams both placed 11th out of 20 teams in the AAA state championship meet Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Clemson Sandhills Research Center in Columbia.

The Warriors scored 311 points in the state meet. Bishop England won the boys Class AAA title with 50 points.

ILHS junior Walker Reeves led the Warriors, placing 33rd overall in the boys race with a personal-best time of 17:32. Ben Elson placed 50th overall with a personal-best time of 17:58.
Maddox Yegge 18:01, Noah Kiger 18:36, Jaxon Barringer 19:25, Allen Livingston 19:26, and Jared Diemer 21:10 also competed for Indian Land.

 

The Warriors were the top finishers from Region IV-AAA.

“We were real proud of our boys runners,” ILHS cross country coach Chris Cuviello said. “They did well, making a jump to an 11th-place overall finish after finising 16th last year.”

 

The Lady Warriors scored 305 points in the state meet. Seneca won the girls Class AAA title with 52 points.

 

 

 

ILHS freshman Mattie Baile Tripp led the Lady Warriors, placing 51st overall in the girls race with a personal-best time of 21:59.
Lauren Sizemore 22:19, Chloe Duernberger 22:22, Baileigh Sizemore 22:37, Olivia Morales 22:54, Caprielle Terry 23:16 and Sara Valle 24:58 also competed for Indian Land.
“Our girls continue to perform well,” Cuviello said. “We have a young group of runners, but they continue to produce good times and they are good for the future of our program.”

posted 21:01 to place 21st overall.State qualifiers
The Indian Land boys and girls cross country teams qualified for the state meet at the AAA Lower State qualifier Oct. 27 in Darlington.
To qualify, a team must place in the top 10 at the meet.
The IL boys team placed fifth out of 17 teams. The girl’s team placed seventh out of 14 teams.
Reeves placed 19th overall in the boys race with a time of 18:15. Yegge finished 27th at 18:36. Elson 19:01, Kiger 19:38, Barringer 19:54, Livingston 20:14 and Diemer 22:42 also competed for the Warriors.
Tripp placed 16th overall in the girls race with a time of 22:13. Duernberger finished 25th at 23:08.  Lauren Sizemore 23:49.5, Baileigh Sizemore 23:49.9, Valle 24:17, Terry 24:27 and Morales 24:28 also competed for the Lady Warriors.

Region champs
Indian Land’s cross country teams won both the girls and boys Region IV AAA championships Oct. 17 at Camden.
The Lady Warriors placed first with a score of 15 points to win their third straight Region IV AAA championship title and eighth straight region title overall.
The Warriors placed first with a score of 22 points to win their first Region IV AAA championship title and third overall region title.
