Double blessings at church

-A A +A

from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church
A large crowd attended a day of double blessings at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Sunday, Oct. 1, where a new pavilion was dedicated and pets were blessed.
The 78 members of the Knights of Columbus Council 14675 at Our Lady of Grace held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 20-by-40-foot attached pavilion for outdoor special events, donated by their nonprofit organization to their home parish.
The Knights’ mission statement is charity, unity, patriotism and fraternity.
In addition to helping their church add a shaded pavilion with lights and fans, they have raised funds to help hurricane victims in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.
They have also made donations to Horsing Around, which provides therapy for disabled children.
The Knights also offer support to mothers who choose life for their unborn child.
The Knights will host a trunk or treat at the pavilion at Our Lady of Grace from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. There will be candy, cupcakes, drinks and games.
Pet blessing
Immediately following the ribbon-cutting, Father Jeffery Kirby blessed the animals of the church in honor of St. Francis, whose Feast Day is Oct. 4. The beloved St. Francis of Assisi also led Jorge Mario Bergoglio to choose his name, Pope Francis, in honor of this saint. The animals present received a St. Francis medal and treats, while their owners enjoyed cool treats, including lemonade and ice cream.
