Zamek chair of S.C. Alzheimer’s group
Seth Zamek, owner and executive director of Senior Helpers, has been appointed chairman of the S.C. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. His term began July 1, and lasts two years.
As chairman, Zamek leads a board of 21 members from around the state.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the premier voluntary health organization battling Alzheimer’s disease. The association serves to provide support, educate and conduct and fund research on the disease.
Its mission is “To eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.” 
The South Carolina chapter has six offices located throughout the state with 17 fulltime staff and hundreds of volunteers.
It is estimated that there are more than 3,000 York County residents, 2,000 Lancaster County residents and 1,500 Chester County residents with Alzheimer’s disease. There are 89,000 South Carolinians and 5.3 million Americans with the disease.
Zamek and his wife, Jennie, are owners of Senior Helpers, a home care organization they started in 2008, with a vision of enhancing the quality of life for seniors by assisting them with personal and companion care needs so they can continue to live at home.

Oral surgeons offer free smile makeover
Greater Charlotte Oral & Facial Surgery, 9787 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, is offering those in need of a smile makeover the chance to win one through its Second Chance program. The winner will receive a complimentary full-arch restoration procedure that utilizes dental implants to give them surgically restored, lifelike and fully functional new teeth in both arches.
Anyone in the greater Charlotte or Fort Mill areas, including Indian Land, who suffers from multiple lost or failing teeth but cannot afford the oral surgery required to restore them, may apply for this program through Jan. 17.
Oral surgeons Drs. Amir Marashi and Arman Haghighi, will work closely with restorative dentist Dr. Kavi Sagunarthy and partner with Pittman Dental Labs and Straumann to complete the winner’s new smile.

UW seeks tax prep volunteers
United Way of Lancaster County is looking for volunteers to do taxes for Lancaster residents this tax season. Volunteers will be trained with Internal Revenue Service tax materials to help people whose incomes are $54,000 or less with their federal and state individual income tax returns. Chamber’s annual Soiree Jan. 30
The Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce will host its 63rd annual Soiree Jan. 30 at The Lodge at Sun City Carolina Lakes, 2955 Sun City Blvd., Indian Land. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception, followed by a meal and live music.
Ticket prices for the event are $60 per member and $80 for non-members. The deadline for reservation is Jan. 23.
