  • Warriors Upstate soccer champs!

    GILBERT – The wait is over – Upper State boys soccer champion Indian Land is state-bound.
    The revenge-minded IL Warriors, nearly a year to the day, avenged a tough 3-2 loss to Gilbert High School in the 2011 Class AA Upper State title match with a 3-2 double overtime win over Gilbert on Tuesday, May 15, at the GHS field.
    The Warriors’ 3-2 win over the Indians sends IL to the Class AA state title match to face Class AA Lower State champion Academic Magnet of Charleston, which edged Waccamaw, 1-0 on Tuesday, may 15.

    Class AA Upper State champion Indian Land will face AA Lower State champion Academic Magnet of Charleston for the Class AA state soccer title on Saturday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m. in Columbia’s Memorial Stadium.

  • Warriors advance in soccer...

    The Indian Land High soccer team is hoping a past bad taste in the mouth will become a victory to savor.
    The Warriors’ soccer team, 20-4, returned to Gilbert High School in Lexington County to face the Indians in a rematch of the 2011 Class AA Upper State title Tuesday, May 15.
    The Indians edged the Warriors, 3-2, last May, and the Warriors are looking for revenge this week.
    “We’re looking forward to the match,” IL coach Adam Cole said Saturday. “Last year, the match left a bad taste in our mouth.”

  • Woodruff boots Lady Warriors

    The Indian Land Lady Warriors fell to Woodruff High School in the second round of the girls Class AA Upper State soccer playoffs May 9.
    Woodruff held a 3-0 lead at the half.
    Megan Roberts scored two goals and added an assist for the Lady Wolverines, who are 12-6-1 on the season.
    ILHS Lady Warriors coach Mark Bonda said he was proud of his team.

  • IL lifters win awards

    Three Indian Land area powerlifters produced strong showings in the Iron Boy powerlifting meet April 13 at the Platform Gym in Concord, N.C.
    The three lifters each took home at least one award from the meet, which drew competitors from six states.
    Red Walker, in the 165-pound weight class, placed first in the 50-54 masters age division.
    Rick Coley, in the 242-pound weight class, was first in the masters age division. Coley also won the exceptional lifter award at the meet.

    Kids on the Ball offers sports camps
    The Kids on the Ball program will offer two summer sports camps at Indian Land Elementary School. The camps are open to boys and girls in grades kindergarten to fifth grade living in the Indian Land/Lancaster area.
    Session 1 is June 11-14. Session 2 is July 9-12. Both camps are 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.

  • Lady Warriors advance in soccer...

    The Indian Land High School Lady Warriors won a tight battle with Region IV-AA and county foe Andrew Jackson High School to advance in the Class AA Upper State soccer playoffs.
    Andrew Jackson held a 2-1 edge in the second half before the Lady Warriors used a furious finish to post the 3-2 comeback win on Monday, May 7, at the ILHS Reservation.
    The Lady Warriors tied the match at 2-all as Shalyn Dougherty scored off an assist from Emma Gladu. Dougherty, a sophomore, has 41 goals this season.

  • ILHS soccer standouts sign with...

    The Indian Land High School soccer team will have a solid link to the University of South Carolina Lancaster soccer team.
    Three standout members of the Warriors’ team will be playing for the Lancers’ first soccer team next fall.
    The talented trio includes Denis Killoran, Nick Outen and Carson McGinn.
    Killoran and McGinn signed with the school May 2.
    “Their chemistry is a big part of our success,” said IL coach Adam Cole. “They work hard together and are a big part of our success.”

  • Truesdale wins Upper State...

    The Indian Land High School track and field teams will send eight athletes to this year’s SCHSL State Championship meet at Spring Valley High School in Columbia on Saturday, May 12, after strong finishes in the Class AA Upper State competition at Broome High School in Spartanburg last weekend.
    The top four competitors per event qualify for the state championship.
    Moving on to the state games after a first-place win in the boys 110-meter hurdles is senior Rondreas Truesdale with a time of 15.05.

  • Junior Lady Warriors soccer team...

    The Indian Land High School JV girls soccer team posted an 11- 0 perfect season.
    They never trailed at any point of any game, coach Michael Schoeppner said.  
    “It was a pleasure coaching such a determined group of young woman who would not settle for anything less than a victory for themselves and their school,”  he said.
