IL firm to hire 400 by July

Red Ventures has announced that it plans to hire more than 400 employees by July.
Since 2011, the technology company has added nine brand partners to its rapidly expanding portfolio and is now seeking top talent to join its growing team.
Red Ventures, which acquires customers for some of the nation’s largest brands, will bring nearly 200 of these new jobs to its Indian Land headquarters.

Warriors Upstate soccer champs!

GILBERT – The wait is over – Upper State boys soccer champion Indian Land is state-bound.
The revenge-minded IL Warriors, nearly a year to the day, avenged a tough 3-2 loss to Gilbert High School in the 2011 Class AA Upper State title match with a 3-2 double overtime win over Gilbert on Tuesday, May 15, at the GHS field.
The Warriors’ 3-2 win over the Indians sends IL to the Class AA state title match to face Class AA Lower State champion Academic Magnet of Charleston, which edged Waccamaw, 1-0 on Tuesday, may 15.

ILHS soccer standouts sign with USCL

The Indian Land High School soccer team will have a solid link to the University of South Carolina Lancaster soccer team.
Three standout members of the Warriors’ team will be playing for the Lancers’ first soccer team next fall.
The talented trio includes Denis Killoran, Nick Outen and Carson McGinn.
Killoran and McGinn signed with the school May 2.
“Their chemistry is a big part of our success,” said IL coach Adam Cole. “They work hard together and are a big part of our success.”

Work begins at Carolina Reserve

National homebuilder Lennar Group is building a new 400-home community in Indian Land. Carolina Reserve is located on Jim Wilson Road just east of Charlotte Highway and across from the Belair neighborhood.
The developer said the project is envisioned as a four-in-one concept with four distinct neighborhoods featuring a variety of home styles and features.
The company recently started work on the project with crews grading and prepping the entrance for roads and curbing.

Tarrylula Pearl Wiley, 66

LANCASTER - Tarrylula Pearl Wiley, 66, died Saturday, May 12, 2012.
She was the daughter of the late Willie Davis and the late Pearlena Boyd Vinson.
Survivors include a daughter, Trina L. Wiley of Lancaster; four brothers, the Rev. Lothell Boyd of Lancaster, Lemma Jackson of Waxhaw, N.C., Jessie Jackson of Monroe, N.C., and Isaac Jackson of Lancaster; two sisters, Lillie Weathers of Lancaster and Bessie Hill of Buffalo, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild, Bella Jai Wiley.

Class AA Upper State champion Indian Land will face AA Lower State champion Academic Magnet of Charleston for the Class AA state soccer title on Saturday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m. in Columbia’s Memorial Stadium.

ILES dedicates new track to Kersey

Indian Land Elementary School dedicated a new track May 7 in memory of the late coach Mike Kersey.
Kersey, the school’s beloved physical education teacher and coach of the Indian Land High and Middle school wrestling teams, died Oct. 4, 2011, of injuries sustained in an ATV accident.
The dedication of the Coach Mike Kersey Memorial Track took place during a short ceremony attended by Kersey’s family, along with students, faculty, wrestlers and community members.

Third annual Lancaster Red Rose Festival this weekend

Frank Palazzolo didn't know anything about the festivities on tap today and Saturday in downtown Lancaster.
The Lancaster resident had been thinking about a possible retreat out of town. But news of the third annual Red Rose Festival caused him to reconsider his plans.
The festival, billed as the city of Lancaster's signature event, is expected to bring droves of patrons – locals and visitors alike – to the downtown area, where they can experience live music, an assortment of food and several activities.

ILHS graduation Friday afternoon

As the final hours of the school year tick away this week, Indian Land High School’s 151 graduating members of the Class of 2012 are busy preparing for Friday’s big commencement ceremony.
But, as is often the case these days, the students aren’t the only ones with obligations during graduation – the school has several things those attending the ceremony need to do as well.
