    Lowe’s stores to hire 45,000 seasonal workers
    Home-improvement retailer Lowe’s said it plans to hire 45,000 seasonal workers ahead of the busy spring season.
    Only five of the jobs will be at the Indian Land store at 181 Fort Mill Highway (S.C. 160).
    On average, seasonal employees will work 20 to 25 hours per week. Most jobs will start in February and some could last until September.
    The company also plans to add 9,000 part-time employees on a permanent basis.

  • Leadership Lancaster retreat provides powerful experience

    A peaceful, serene Atlantic Ocean is something I had never seen before while visiting Myrtle Beach.
    I’m accustomed to droves of people partying along Ocean Boulevard, hanging out by the pool and dipping in the ocean on a hot summer day.
    But this time, cold temperatures rendered the beach somewhat desolate. Vacationers walking along the beach were few and far between.
    Given that, you’d think my Jan. 4-6 trip to North Myrtle Beach was uneventful. But it was the total opposite.

    Chamber’s annual meeting Thursday
    Wine & Stein, the 57th annual meeting of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce, will be  Thursday, Jan. 24, in the Fairway Room of Lancaster Golf Club.  
    Several community awards will be presented, including Lancaster County Volunteer of the Year, Small Business of the Year and the Citizenship and Service Award.
    The wine tasting/social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the program at 7 p.m., with entertainment by The Emeralds.

    State chamber event Jan. 29
    “Business Speaks at the State House,” a statewide S.C. Chamber event, will be Jan. 29 at the Marriott hotel in Columbia.
    Area business people are invited to meet with members of the General Assembly and state constitutional officers for a briefing on the 2013 Competitiveness Agenda and question/answer session with state legislators on upcoming session. There will be a town hall-style meeting at 4  p.m., followed by a reception at 6 p.m. Cost is $95 per person.
