  • Women celebrate their own seder

    Almost 100 women from around the area gathered March 20 at the Blue Heron restaurant in Sun City Carolina Lakes for the second annual Women’s Seder.
    The seder is a ceremonial meal that includes the story of Passover, the Jewish festival celebrating the Exodus, when ancient Israelites crossed the desert to escape Egyptian slavery in the promised land.
    The focus of this seder was obvious from the opening – it was for and about women and honoring them.

    Macedonia honored pastor with banquet
    Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 8805 Van Wyck Road, Van Wyck, celebrated the second anniversary of Apostle and First Lady Johnny Williams with a banquet Saturday, March 24. The celebration continued during Sunday morning services with guest minister Wanalyn Barnette of Liberty Hill AME Zion Church in Lake Wylie, a lunch and a culmination service that afternoon with Pastor Percell Ross of St. Luke No. 2 in Sharon.

  • Salkehatchie seeks homeowners in need

    The Catawba Salkehatchie Camp is looking for residents in Indian Land and Fort Mill who need help with substantial home repairs June 16-23.
    Since 1998, Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church has hosted 60 plus campers each summer for a work week that has helped more than 75 homeowners in Indian Land, Van Wyck and Fort Mill.
    “Generally, the people we help have fallen on bad times,” said Tony Carnes, who directs the local program.

    • Sunday, March 18, church service at 10:15 a.m., followed by Let’s Eat Out in the fellowship hall after the service.

  • Crossroads to dedicate prayer garden Sunday

    What started as a vision will soon be a reality.
    On Sunday, March 11, Crossroads Lutheran Church will dedicate its new Community Prayer Garden with the Stations of the Cross.  
    Bishop Herman Yoos of the S.C. Lutheran Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will preside at the dedication service at 11 a.m. Sunday at the church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Road.

  • Mission celebrates four years

    A covered dish social was held Feb. 11 to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Mission.
    Parishioners enjoyed good food and fellowship, while reminiscing about all that has been accomplished in the past four years and looking forward to what still needs to be done in order to build their church.  
    The mission’s first Mass was celebrated Feb. 9, 2008, at Belair United Methodist Church. The small church was packed and overflowing.
