  • Crossroads preps for community service blitz May 2

Lutherans across South Carolina are preparing for a big mission trip - across the street and down the road.

On Saturday, May 2, Lutherans statewide will participate in a community service blitz day called Operation Inasmuch. The day is intended to encourage Lutherans of all ages to engage in service to others in the community. Members from more than 100 congregations statewide are expected to participate.

  • We’re all still under construction

As I drive around town, it’s hard not to notice all the construction barrels and cones that invade our streets. When I see them, I begin to think, “Here we grow, again.” Indian Land is growing by leaps and bounds, which is exciting, but frustrating.

Thinking about construction makes me think of my own personal life, and how all of it, from my mind to my mouth and heart, needs reconstructing. In my prayer time, I often pray “Lord, use me to expand your kingdom.” I heard God whisper to me the words, “under construction.”

  • Pleasant Hill UMC announces expansion plans

Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church has grown so much in the last few years that it has outgrown its buildings.

The sanctuary, built in the 1950s to seat 200, now accommodates 220-235 in each of the two services each Sunday. And on holidays, such as Easter or Christmas, it’s standing-room only.

So the 550-member church is embarking on an ambitious long-range building plan for its 5.5 acres on S.C. 160.

  • Good news of Jesus affects us all

The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is turn on the news. Sometimes, it’s boring. Other times, I hear something that affects me directly.

Following Jesus’ resurrection, Peter was declaring the good news about Jesus. Jesus was alive! Jesus’ crucifixion had been part of God’s plan to save people. Jesus rose again and was sitting at the right hand of God. The people were moved by this message and 3,000 people gave their lives to Christ and were baptized that day.

  • You have to leave the nest before you can soar

Many people today are going through a lot of struggles. One fellow said that he had so many problems that if he had another problem, it would be two weeks before he had time to worry about it. You may feel that way. You may feel like somebody’s jerked the rug right out from under you.

Please read Deuteronomy 32:9-14. Here, God teaches us a spiritual lesson through nature, using a story about how the mother eagle teaches her eaglet to fly.

He says that “the mother eagle stirreth up the nest.”

  • This tells me Jesus loves me

There we were again – sitting in my living room. Everybody was full from a great dinner. I believe we had loaded baked potatoes this particular night. We try to eat a meal that is enjoyable, but one that does not keep people in the kitchen all day in preparation or clean up, for that matter.

We had been worshipping together. Adults and children were raising their voices with a guitar in the background. We worship together as families and have experienced that some of our times together are louder than others.

  • Holy Week Events

FM church offers Holy Week services

Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, 109 Harris St., Fort Mill, will hold the following events this week:

    • The church will hold a Maundy Thursday Eucharist service from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, with a drop-in time for personal communion.

    • The church will hold a post-sunrise Easter service at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, April 12, on the front lawn with a fellowship breakfast at 9:15 a.m. in the family life center.

  • ‘What happened in the garden’

Ever wondered what the people around Jesus felt about his death and resurrection?

On April 5, the youth of Belair United Methodist Church explored that question in a short Easter play called “What Happened in the Garden (Didn’t Stay in the Garden).” The 17-minute play was a conversation between characters involved in the crucifixion story.
