Warriors win region wrestling title

Indian Land High School swept a three-way home match, highlighted by the Warriors’ 42-28 win over Central High of Pageland for the Region IV-AA regular-season wrestling title Jan. 24.
The Warriors fell behind the Eagles, 10-0, but rebounded with a key 36-0 surge to post a 14-point comeback win over the CHS grapplers.
“We had a slow start, but then Devin Curtsinger came through with a key first-period pin for us,” Indian Land coach Rondale Truesdale said. “That was the spark of momentum we needed because we followed with 30 straight points to put us in control of the match.”
In the IL decisive run, Jared Smith and Shawn Washington each had a pin, while Logan Creed and Rondreas Truesdale each posted a decision.
Senior heavyweight Mark Morris registered a pin to cap the Warriors’ win.
“Our wrestlers have worked hard this season and it’s good to see them having something to show for it in the region title,” Truesdale said. “I feel we’re making key improvement as we head into the postseason.”
Indian Land, 17-10, capped the mat sweep with a 72-6 win over Class A opponent Lewisville High School.
The Warriors competed in the All-Region IV-AA meet at Buford High School on Saturday.
