ILHS sports awards program Thursday
The Indian Land High School fall sports awards program will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, in the Indian Land High School gym.
Athletes in football, volleyball, cross country and girls tennis will be honored at the awards night.

Hoops for Scouts tournament Jan. 6-7
A Hoops for Scouts basketball tournament, for ages 16-up, will be played Jan. 6-7 at the Buford Middle gym.
The entry fee for the double-elimination tournament is $150 per team.
Deadline to enter is today, Jan. 4. Tournament proceeds benefit Girl Scout Troop 625.

Elks sponsor free throw contest Sunday
Fort Mill Elks Lodge 2859 will sponsor its third annual Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Banks Street Gym, 490 Academy St., Fort Mill.
The free contest is open to boys and girls ages 8-13, as of April 1, 2012.
Pre-register by contacting Nancy Reynolds at nreynolds@com porium.net with child’s name, address, date of birth, grade, name of school and phone number.
Bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate to the contest to verify age.


Tryouts set for AAU basketball team
Open tryouts for Team EX-CEL Basketball will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, and Jan. 21 at the former Bobcats training facility in Fort Mill.
This premier AAU basketball team is for boys and girls in grades seven to 10. Chosen players will receive training from experienced coaches, college placement and scholarship assistance, and have access to tutoring, mentoring and counseling services.

The Joint Recreation Commission for Lancaster County will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster.


U8 travel baseball team seeks members

The Carolina Select Baseball organization is forming an area 8-under travel baseball team. The team begins play this spring.
All interested players should report to Harris Street Park in Fort Mill at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 28 for registration. This competitive team will play up to six tournaments in the spring and travel.

Martial arts championships set
The 38th annual Universal Martial Arts championships will be at 9 a.m. March 10 at the Springdale Recreation Center, 260 S. Plantation Road, Lancaster.
 The competition features more than 200 divisions. All children will compete first. Also featured are classic adult black belt awards and cash for all grand champions.
The event, sponsored by Universal Karate Studios, will be judged by professional judges certified by Dojo Sport Karate Organization.
The event offers pre-registration discounts for school owners who pre-register 15 or more students.
