Second contract post office opens in IL

Indian Land residents now have another choice in mail services with the opening of a new contract U.S. Postal Service office near Doby’s Bridge Road.
Located inside Liberty Tax Service at 8441 Charlotte Highway in the Commons at Doby’s Bridge shopping center next to the Gate service station, the site offers a full range of outgoing postal services.
Indian Land’s original contract post office at the MJ Mart on the corner of Charlotte Highway and S.C. 160 will remain open.
Liberty Tax Service owner Lisa Walker said when the post office sent out solicitations for a new contract office early last summer, she jumped at the chance.
“The post office was looking for one closer to Sun City, and we’re less than 2 miles from the front gate,” Walker said. “So I put together a proposal and they accepted it and awarded a contract.”
Walker said the office offers a full range of outbound postal services, including stamps, first-class, express and priority mail, flat-rate boxes, delivery confirmation and insurance.
In the future, the location will offer the post office’s ReadyPost line of shipping and mailing products, such as boxes, package tape, tube mailers, bubble wrap and other items, Walker said.
“And we do not charge an up-charge; we have regular post office prices,” Walker said. “That’s important, because people often think contract post offices charge more, but we don’t.”
The office’s regular hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
Walker said until the end of tax season on April 15, though, the post office hours will match Liberty Tax Service’s hours – which means extended hours until 9 p.m. during the week and until 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
Walker said the community’s reception has been great since the location’s “soft opening” in late January and she expects to have a grand opening later in the month.
“Business has picked up; every day we get more and more folks coming in,” Walker said. “They’ve been really excited that we’re right here in the neighborhood.”
