A weekly listing of area religious news and events

St. John’s announces events 

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold these events: 

- The Chrismon (symbols of Christmas) service will be Dec. 10 at both services.

- The Angel Tree is the United Methodist Youth Fellowship’s annual community mission project to provide Christmas gifts for less fortunate children and their families. You can pick an angel from the Angel Tree in the fellowship center. Follow the instructions listed on the table with the sign-out sheets for the angel you pick. Angel Tree gifts must be returned and wrapped with their ornament tag by noon Dec. 10. The gifts will be delivered to the families that afternoon.

-  Every year, St John’s lines its sidewalks on Christmas Eve with luminaries dedicated to loved ones. If you would like to dedicate one to the memory of someone or in honor of someone, please fill out a form in the fellowship hall near the Angel Tree or in the sanctuary. Each luminary is $2 and all funds go toward our Salkahatchie Fund. Put the form and the payment in the provided envelope and drop it in the box designated or the luminaries. Deadline for orders is Dec. 10.

-  The VIPs will meet Dec. 11 in the fellowship center. The program will be the “Oral History of Fort Mill” by Fort Mill History Museum. Bring pictures, artifacts and stories that you can share with the group. There will be a light lunch.

- St. John’s is selling Christmas trees 3-8 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m- 9 p.m. Saturday and noon-8 p.m. Sunday beside the church parking lot. St. John’s members will receive a $5 discount on their tree. 

OLOG December events

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Charlotte Highway, will hold the following events this month:

- The fifth annual Knights of Columbus Council 14765 Christmas dinner fundraiser is 5:45 p.m. Dec. 6 at The Lodge, 2955 Sun City Blvd. There will be entertainment, food, door prizes and raffles. Bring your own bottle. 

- Can’t make it to Mass? The church will send someone to drive you. Contact Natalie Jackson at (803) 283-4969 ext. 104, for details.

Byzantine service Dec. 9

Belair food pantry Dec. 7

The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 7 for those who live in the Indian Land and Harrisburg schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome. Donations of food or money are also welcome at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.

JAARS Passport to Christmas Dec. 8-9

JAARS, 7405 JAARS Road, Waxhaw, N.C., will present Passport to Christmas on Dec. 8-9 at the JAARS Center. The family event explores cultures around the world through stories, activities, music, foods and take-home crafts. Hours are 1:30-5 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. Dec. 9. Van Wyck Lighting of the Way Dec. 10

The annual Lighting of the Way is 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Van Wyck Post Office on the corner of Old Hickory and Steele Hill Road. AA meets at Belair UMC

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the social hall at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road. The meetings are open discussion, with speakers on the third Wednesday of the month.

Temple Solel services

Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, holds its services at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, and holds Shabbat services at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of each month in the St. Phillip Neri community room. Catholics add 5th service
