Food truck at Faith Nov. 9

Faith Presbyterian Church of Indian Land will host a Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry at 9 a.m. Nov. 9 in the parking lot of the new Faith Presbyterian Church, 7520 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the food distribution beginning about 9 a.m. Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Recipients must meet USDA income-eligibility guidelines. An acceptable form of ID is required at the time of registration. All are welcome. For details, call (803) 548-8810.    

St. John’s November events 

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold these events in November: 

- Commitment Sunday, Nov. 12 – Members are asked to bring their service preferences sheets and pledge amounts.

- VIP’s Thanksgiving dinner, 11 a.m. Nov. 13 in the fellowship hall – Turkey and dressing will be provided by Jackson’s Cafeteria. Members are asked to bring sides and desserts. Sign up in the church lobby.

- The book club will discuss “Cape Refuge” by Terry Blackstock at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 in the men’s Sunday school room.

- The Gourmet Travelers meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Nov. 16 at Famous Toastery, 2429 S.C. 160 West, Tega Cay. 

- St. John’s offers Wednesday night meals and Vesper services every Wednesday in November except Nov. 22. Meals are served at 5:45 p.m., with the Vesper service following. Sign up in the church lobby or call the church office at (803) 547-7538.

Ruthenian liturgy Nov. 12

A Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill. For details, contact Ron Somich at (440) 477-6389. 

Choir anniversary Nov. 12

White Oak AME Zion Church, 1281 W. Rebound Road, Van Wyck, will celebrate its men’s choir anniversary at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 12. Various guest choirs will perform.

Crossroads shoebox drop-off

Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Road (at the corner of Shelley  Mullis and Henry Harris roads), Indian Land, will accept Operation Christmas Child shoebox drop-offs 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 13-18 and 20 and 1-3 p.m. Nov. 19. 

The shoebox gifts will be delivered to children worldwide who may face poverty, war or disaster. For many of these children, the shoebox gift will be first gift they have ever received.  

Cardboard or plastic shoeboxes of average size should be used if you do not have the Samaritan’s Purse decorated boxes. 

Please do not include liquids or lotions, chocolate or food, breakable items or aerosol cans. A new restriction this year is no candy or toothpaste, which can delay delivery in several countries.

Women’s luncheon Nov. 14

The Christian Women’s Connection will hold a holiday auction luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 14 at First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Gay St., Lancaster. Arlene Grimes will speak on “When All Else Fails, Read the Directions.” The event features an auction and Shirley Hunter singing. All proceeds benefit Stonecroft Ministries. St. John’s Gourmet Travelers lunch Nov. 16

- The Gourmet Travelers of St. John’s United Methodist Church will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Nov. 16 at Famous Toastery, 2429 S.C. 160 West, Tega Cay. This is a group of church members who normally eat alone. Please come and break bread together.

Mount Moriah Chinese auction

Mount Moriah AME Zion Church will hold a Chinese auction at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the American Legion, 823 Kershaw Camden Highway, Lancaster, with doors open at 5 p.m. Food will be served and a 50/50 raffle will be drawn. All proceeds benefit the church’s usher board. For details, call (803) 285-7275.

St. John’s men’s breakfast Nov. 19

The United Methodist Men of St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will meet for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 19. All are welcome.

AA meets at Belair UMC

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the social hall at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road. The meetings are open discussion, with speakers on the third Wednesday of the month.

Temple Solel services

Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, holds its services at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, and holds Shabbat services at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of each month in the St. Phillip Neri community room. Catholics add 5th service
