OLOG posts coming events

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Highway, will hold the following upcoming events:

- “Kingdom of Happiness” eight-week course study at 1 p.m Thursdays beginning Jan. 18 and 5:30 p.m. Sundays beginning Jan. 21. Study guide costs $25.

- OLOG Book Club meets 1-2 p.m. Mondays.

- The church will hold a Mardi Gras festival at noon Feb. 11.

Celebrate the Divine Liturgy

A Byzantine-Rite Catholic Community will celebrate the Ruthenian Divine Liturgy at 4 p.m. Jan. 27 in the St. Philip Neri Church Parish Center, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill. St. John’s UMC posts events 

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, will hold these events:

- Registration for Wee School is now open for currently enrolled students and begins at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 for all others in the church fellowship hall. For details, email Beth Meador at sjumcweeschool@gmail.com.

- St. John’s Talent Show and bake sale is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 3. Storytellers, singers, musicians, magicians, comedians, animal trainers and anyone interested in showing off their talents may sign up in the hallway outside the sanctuary. All ages are welcome.

- The Youth Council at St. John’s United Methodist Church has decided to split the UMYF meetings into two groups – middle school and high school. Both groups will meet together for food and fellowship at 4 p.m. Sundays, then divide for age-appropriate devotions/discussions and activities. All missions will be a group effort.  

- Plans are being made to offer the Disciple 1 Bible Study in the new year. It is a 32-week, in-depth course. It may be split into two sessions – one in the spring and one in the fall. If you have never taken one of the disciple classes, consider signing up for this one. Sign-up sheets will be available in the lobby.

- Family Ministries will be sponsoring a weekend retreat at Asbury Hills on March 2-4. Sign-ups in the hallway near the sanctuary. We need to have a minimum of 20 people sign up.

Upcoming mission events include Souper Bowl Sunday on Feb. 4, Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on Feb. 13 and the Easter lily sale on Feb. 18.

All youth in grades six-12 are welcome to join the youth groups and bring a friend. 

‘Simply the Story’ workshop

The Moriah Baptist Association will hold a “Simply the Story” training workshop 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 29-Feb. 2 at the Moriah Baptist Association Mission Center, 904 W. Meeting St., Lancaster. The workshop costs $50, which includes meals. Scholarships are available. It is for laymen and pastors to learn to effectively use oral strategy in evangelism and discipleship. Belair food pantry Feb. 1

The food pantry at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, is open 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 1 for those who live in the Indian Land and Harrisburg schools attendance area. Anyone in need of food is welcome. Donations of food or money are also welcome at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.

AA meets at Belair UMC

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the social hall at Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road. 

The meetings are open discussion with speakers on the third Wednesday of the month.

NAMI support groups meet

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Family Support Group meets 7-8:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month in Room 203 at Transformation Church, 8978 Charlotte Highway. For details, contact Sue Korn at (704) 575-5928 or suekorn08@gmail.com.

NAMI’s Connections (for adults with mental health conditions) and Family Support groups meet the first Monday and third Thursday of each month at First Presbyterian Church, 700 N. Main St., Lancaster. For details, visit www.namipiedmont.com.

Temple Solel services

Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, holds its services at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, and holds Shabbat services at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of each month in the St. Phillip Neri community room. Catholics add 5th service

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Highway (S.C. 75) has added a fifth service. Worship services are now held at 4 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 7, 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday. For more info the church, visit www.gracewepray.org.
