Lancaster County schools closed Thursday

Black ice, icy roads in neighborhoods and rural areas, and unsafe parking lots and sidewalks mean Lancaster County schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 13.

“We spent much of Wednesday traveling the county to check road conditions,” Lancaster County School District Superintendent Dr. Gene Moore said. “There’s still a dangerous amount of ice on roads, especially in neighborhoods and rural areas. We want to return to school as soon as possible, but our first concern is the safety of our students, our parents and our staff. After considering all the factors and consulting with law enforcement, we decided closing was safest thing to do.”
