Karen Sigwart Hayes, 63

Indian Land – Karen Frances Sigwart Hayes, 63, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte from ALS complications.
Born in Charlotte, she was the daughter of Sarah Lily Potts Sigwart and the late Harry Robert Sigwart. She was married to William Martin Hayes. She graduated from Garinger High School in 1967. She was a mail carrier in Waxhaw for 10 years. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Mark Smith of Newport News, Va., Chris Smith of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew Smith of Norfolk, Va., and David Hayes of Indian Land; a brother, Frank Sigwart of Palm Bay, Fla.; and a sister, Donna McAfee of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church fellowship hall.
A funeral will follow at 4 p.m., conducted by Pastor David Falgout, with burial in the church cemetery.
